Prime Minister Narendra Modi a Publicity PM and not Performance PM – Siddaramaiah
Udupi: “Modi does not have any morality to seek votes by projecting his achievements during his tenure as PM. Modi is good only in delivering speeches but the people of the coastal district should not trust him. Hope people will not repeat the same mistake by voting for the BJP this time”, said the chairperson of the state coalition government coordination committee Siddaramaiah during the Parivarthan Yatra held at the Royal Garden Kalsanka here on March 10.
Addressing the party workers Siddaramaiah said that the electorate should not get fooled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Noting that Modi had fooled everyone by giving false promises but now people are frustrated with the current Central government.
Siddaramaiah alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi disregarded the poor people in the country and at the same time he has close links to businessmen like Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Anil Ambani.
The Upcoming Lok Sabha election is going to be between Rahulji and Modiji. It’s going to be between the ideologies of the parties, the programmes and schemes that our UPA and Congress government have brought, not between individuals.
“Modi also failed to create employment, at the same time he asked the job seekers to sell pakodas. The fuel price hike is all-time high in spite of international crude oil prices plummeting. The BJP has betrayed the people of the country not fulfilling the promises made during the last general elections,” Siddaramaiah said.
The BJP has failed on its promises of giving a corruption-free government, to bring back black money from foreign shores and double farmers’ income, among several other assurances. “Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) is a publicity PM and not a performance PM,” he said,
Siddaramaiah claimed that Modi has cheated the farmers of the country, who are ending their lives under financial stress. “He promised to double the farmers’ income but did not keep his promise and now the farmers are committing suicide,” Siddaramaiah said.
Siddaramaiah questioned Modi’s moral right to criticise the state government on the issue. ”When I was the CM, a delegation led by me visited Modi twice to waive farmers loan but he did not agree to waive a single rupee. What moral right does he have to talk about Karnataka government?” Questioned Siddaramaiah.
“When I was the chief minister; I had waived Rs 8,165 crore of the farmers’ loan helping 22.27 lakh farmers. But the NDA government led by Modi failed to waive the farmers’ loan availed by farmers from nationalised banks. The state BJP leadership was silent in front of Modi when I had led an all-party delegation to discuss issues pertaining to the state including the farmers’ loan waiver”, he said.
Siddaramaiah questioning NDA’s contribution to the farming community said, “Modi and his government is against the agriculture sector,”
Referring to the Rafale deal, Siddaramaiah said Modi put Rs 30,000 crore into the pocket of (industrialist) Anil Ambani who has no experience of manufacturing jet fighters. Corruption took place in that deal. Modi did not even allow the Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL) to get this contract which would have created jobs for youth in Karnataka.
Karnataka Congress President Dinesh Gundu Rao pointed out that the number of terrorist attacks have increased in the last five years under the Modi government. This clearly shows that it has miserably failed to contain militancy. When the previous UPA government was in power at the Centre, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, four or five surgical strikes were carried out, but he never tried to gain publicity from them.
“On the other hand, the Modi government, which conducted only one surgical strike after the Uri attack, has used it for its political gain. The question here is whether terrorism has stopped after the surgical strike? No political party must try to gain political mileage from issues concerning the country’s military,” he stressed.
“Every citizen is a patriot, but the BJP leaders claim they are more patriotic than others. Others who speak of patriotism are being branded anti-nationals. Some organisations are behaving as if patriotism belongs to them and are creating animosity in the country. Neerav Modi and Mehul Choksi looted the country, what was the Chowkidar doing”? Dinesh Gundu Rao questioned.
Udupi District minister in-charge Dr Jayamala, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Pramod Madhwaraj, Rajya Sabha member B K Hariprasad also spoke on the occasion.
Minister U T Khader, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLA DT Rajegowda, AICC Secretary P C Vishunath, Congress leaders Oscar Fernandes, Gopal Bhandary, Rakesh Malli, Pushapa Amarnath, Prakyath Shetty, Vishwas Ameen, G A Bava, Vignesh Kini, Arathi Krishna, Dr Vijay Kumar, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Janardhan Tonse, Veronica Cornelio, Roshani Olivera, Christen D’Almeida and others were present.
