Mangaluru: After 40 days of the Lenten Season, the Christian fraternity celebrated “Easter”, the Resurrection of Lord Jesus on March 26.
On March 26, at the Rosario Cathedral, Bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza celebrated the Festive Mass. Prior to the Mass at 7:00 PM, Bishop Dr Aloysius lighted the Easter Candle from the “New Fire” and carried it to the Altar in a procession. As the candle was taken down the aisle, parishioners lit the candles from the flame, illuminating the area in candlelight.
In his homily assistant parish priest Fr Rockey Fernandes said, “This is a big feast because, without Jesus’ resurrection, we would not have been saved from sin. Jesus rose on the 3rd day and many witnessed it. We were reintegrated with God due to the resurrection of Jesus.”
He also said, “We should reflect on how strong our faith is. There are many families who have left the faith We need to be enlightened in our faith. We should not only think about ourselves. We should not be greedy and should try to do good for others. We should try to make the life of others easy”.
He further said that many said that Christianity is a lie and Christ is no more. It is not possible for a person to have risen after dying on a cross. Disciples of Jesus who were filled with holy spirit are the witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus. If we are not believing that Jesus has risen from the dead then all our celebrations are meaningless. We need to strengthen our faith and spread the word of God. We have to be the salt of the earth and help others in their needs.
Water was blessed and the Holy water was then sprinkled on all those present. Parish Priest of Rosario Cathedral delivered the vote of thanks and wished all the parishioners a very happy Easter.
Bishop Dr Aloysius D’Souza wishing all the parishioners of Rosario Cathedral said, “I am very happy to see the young and the old taking active part in the celebrations. Children are very active in the church activities because of their parents encouragement. Bishop also urged the parents to involve their children more and more in religious activities since nowadays children are more exposed to unwanted things. In such a situation they need guidance where religious camps will help them to grow in a disciplined way as good citizens. Let the risen Lord bless all of us. Happy Easter’.
