Christian Sports Association® Hosts Thriving Event at Fr Muller Indoor Stadium

Mangalore: In a vibrant display of skill and sportsmanship, the Christian Sports Association® successfully organized its fourth annual badminton tournament at the Fr Muller Indoor Stadium on February 2, 2025. The tournament witnessed impressive participation of over 110 teams across various age groups, making it a significant event for the Christian community within the undivided Mangalore diocese.

Among the standout performances of the day, the youthful duo of Arush and Mohith from Mangaluru captured the coveted title in the highly competitive men’s open category. In an exhilarating final match, they outperformed the seasoned pair of Glanish and Royden, showcasing exceptional teamwork, agility, and strategic prowess that ultimately secured them the winner’s trophy.

The atmosphere at the stadium was electric, with enthusiastic spectators cheering for their favorite players. Families, friends, and supporters gathered, fostering a sense of camaraderie and community that the Christian Sports Association® aims to promote through its events.

The tournament commenced with an inaugural address by Rev. Fr. John D’Souza, SJ, the Director of St. Aloysius I.T.I. He extended heartfelt appreciation to the Christian Sports Association® for their continuous efforts in providing a platform for community members to engage in sports and foster brotherhood. His remarks set a positive tone for the event, emphasizing the importance of unity and mutual support among participants.

Addressing the audience as the chief guest, Mr. Joseph D’Silva, a prominent entrepreneur and one of the primary sponsors of the tournament, highlighted the virtues of hard work and determination inherent in sports. “While challenges abound in every field, it is through courage and confidence that we can surmount them and achieve success,” he articulated, reinforcing the values that sports impart not only on the court but also in life.

The awards ceremony was a moment of pride for both the winners and participants alike. Rev. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, the Assistant Director of the Community Organization for Development Planning (CODP), presided over the prize distribution, commending all players for their sportsmanship and dedication. The victors, Arush and Mohith, received their trophies amidst applause, a testament to their remarkable achievements.

In addition to recognizing the tournament champions, the event also honored several distinguished personalities for their contributions to badminton and sports in general. Veteran sportsman Mr. Michael D’Souza, a gold medalist in masters athletics, received accolades for his lifelong commitment to promoting sports. Additionally, Mr. Glanish Pinto from Udupi and Ms. Trivia Veigas from Mangalore were acknowledged for their exceptional performances in badminton, further inspiring the youth present at the occasion.

The event underscored the Christian Sports Association®’s unwavering commitment to fostering an environment conducive to physical activity and community bonding. The organization aims to not only cultivate sporting talent but also to instill values of teamwork, discipline, and resilience among participants.
