Citizens complain to SP Laxman Nimbargi about Matka, Wine shop in Residential area during Phone-in
Udupi: The police superintendent Laxman Nimbargi registered as many as 16 complaints during the phone-in programme on Friday, January 19.
Majority of the complaints were against matka. The SP received four calls on matka activities, while another call demanding to close a wine shop in a residential area in Adi Udupi. Most of the complaints were received from Kundapur, Udupi and Brahmavar.
Callers highlighted the matka menace, gambling activities have risen in the district in Shirva, Brahmavar, Byndoor and other prominent areas and the callers appealed for prompt action. SP Laxaman replying to the complainants said that effective action will be initiated against gambling activities in the district. Action will be taken on the people involved in gambling. The police officials in their jurisdiction will be working within the legal parameters to curb gambling. The secrecy of the persons who provide information on gambling activities will be maintained.
A caller said that a wine shop is functioning at the Adi-Udupi higher primary school area which leads to problems to the students. SP replying to the complainant said that the department will furnish the report and it will be sent to district administration. The district administration is the final authority to vacate the wine shop.
A caller with the concern of the traffic police requested the SP to provide proper shelter for the traffic police and also drinking water facility to the policemen on duty at traffic Junctions. The SP expressed his gratitude to the caller and assured that the department will take action.
A caller said that many city buses were using high-decibel music system which affects the passengers and asked to stop the music systems in city buses. SP replying to the complainant said that the department is receiving many complaints against private buses by next week we will call a meeting of the Private bus owners. We will instruct them to stop the music being played in city buses if they fail to follow the instructions the police department will start their work, he added.
A caller complained that the students travel in Auto Rickshaw’s with high risk, no safety measures are being followed and overloading of autos is also a risk for the students. The caller demanded action against such Auto’s. SP replying to the complainant said that the parents and schools should be aware of this matter. Parents should not send their children to school in such Auto Rickshaw’s and the school authorities should also take some responsibility on the safety of the students, only then the problem will be solved.
A caller complained that minor students were riding vehicles on the road which leads to many accidents. SP replying to the complainant said that under the new beat system the beat police will be visiting every school and college and create awareness among the teachers and students on road safety.
SP Laxman Nimbargi also received calls on family disputes, NH problems, Cheque Bounce case etc. for which the police chief assured of looking into the issues.
Later interacting with the media, SP said that the police department will initiate effective action on the complaints received from the callers. The police officials have effectively addressed the complaints recorded during the last phone-in programme. 13 Matka cases, 3 gambling cases, 3 NDPS, 30 COTPA, 6 drunk and drive, 19 shrill horn cases, 306 cases for riding without a helmet, 35 over speed cases were recorded after the last phone-in programme. The phone-in programme will be held effectively, he added.
