Udupi: Expressing shock over the gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old child in Kathua and the “continuing silence” of the nation’s leaders, citizens of Udupi organized a silent protest meet at the War Memorial at Ajjarkad here on Monday, April 16.
Addressing the gathering Ansar Ahamed said that the assault on the small girl exposed the politics of hatred and exclusion in the country. “Keeping silent over such cruelty and ignoring our obligation to respond is the saddest reality in the country now.
Many such inhuman assaults on girl children have been witnessed across the country. “Our silence on reacting to such incidents is cruel, we are all responsible for what is happening around us.
It is really shameful to know how the security of women is comprised in our country when it comes to strong and strict laws against crimes like Rape. We are still lacking strong laws to prevent such heinous crimes against them that too in a country like India where women and girls are so much dignified and ethical. It is really important to have strong laws against rape so that the culprit’s don’t even dare to think of committing such crimes against innocent girls, he said.
