City Girl Venizeia Carlos Bags 4 Medals in Asian Power Lifting Championship-Kerala
Venizeia Annie Carlo, aged 17, an II PUC student at St Agnes College-Mangaluru has bagged four medals-two gold, one silver and one bronze in the Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship held at Alleppey in Kerala
Mangaluru: Last time when Team Mangalorean had interacted with 17-year-old Venizeia Annie Carlo and asked if she had any intention of beating her dad in medal totals, she blushingly had said, “I am anxiously looking forward to winning big in the future championships and beat my dad in the medals” (smiling?). And what she said that day has come true today, when Venizeia bagged four medals- two gold, one silver and one bronze in the Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship going on now at Alleppey in Kerala.
Venizeia Carlos is currently pursuing her second year PUC at St Agnes College-Mangaluru, and she is the daughter of Vincent Prakash Carlo, an international bodybuilder and powerlifter, who too had won many laurels in powerlifting nationally and Internationally. And like there is a saying that every child wants to follow in the footsteps of their parents, here we have a daughter who has followed in the footsteps of her father by being a Power-lifting Champion. In this Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship in Kerala, she won two gold medals for overall and deadlift, silver in bench press and bronze in the squat. Credit should also go to her Mangaluru Coach Sathish Kumar Kudroli.
Venizeia’s dad Vincent Carlo, employed with State Excise Department-DK has won quite a few laurels, like winning the Gold medal at the Commonwealth 2011 games held in London; Bronze medal in 2015 Asian Bench Press Championships held at Muscat; Gold medal in International Bench Press Championships held at Jamshedpur, India; and in October 2016, he got the 7th place in the Asian Bench Press Championships held at Tashkent-Uzbekistan, thereby bringing name and fame to Mangaluru. Venizeia’s mother Flavia, is a homemaker, while her younger brother Vance (15 years) is studying in 9th Std at Padua School-Mangaluru; and she also has a younger sister, Vanya (4 years) who is in LKG at St Agnes School, Mangaluru.
According to Venizeia, both her brother and sister, have also a keen interest in taking up power-lifting just like their dad and elder sister. Venezeia has been getting training in power-lifting from her dad, and power-lifting champion Satish Kumar Kudroli at Carlo’s Gym-Maroli, Mangaluru which is managed by Vincent Carlo. When asked about her future plans, Venizeia said she wants to become an Air Hostess, and simultaneously continue this sport, and win big in power-lifting also.
Vincent Carlos speaking to Team Mangalorean over the phone said, “I am very proud of my daughter for her achievements at this age. Last year she had won the gold in the International classic powerlifting championship and the bronze medal at a competition in Hong Kong. Participating in these competitions needs a lot of finance-it costs around Rs 4 lakhs to take part in an International competition. And even though me and my daughter have won medals in International events, until now the government has not released our cash prize money for our achievements, and I hope that to receive the money soon and not wait for years?”

Also communicating with Team Mangalorean via phone, Venizeia said,” My main aim is to be like my dad by achieving big in power-lifting. He has trained me a lot in this sport, and due to his training I have won quite a few medals in the past in power-lifting championships, one among them is winning the bronze at International Power-lifting Championships held in Hong Kong. I owe my success in this sport to my dad who has been my role model and also to my mother who is always caring and very supportive.
