City’s RELAXED Lockdown Day-4? On Your Mark..Get..Set…Shop- and it’s Total Chaos Out There
Mangaluru: It’s Day-4, but on this Tuesday, 31 March, the Total Lockdown which was in force since three days, was RELAXED by the District administration, District Minister in charge, DC, Police Commissioner, MCC, MLA and other authorities, so that people could by their commodities at the supermarkets, Central Market and other stores between 6 am and 3 pm- and it’s already chaos out there, with people storming the stores and markets, and where there are no police or district officials present, no one has been following the guidelines, like Social Distancing and wearing a face mask- and one such place is the Central market, where people are just moving around like they are at a Jathre (Fair)- and police are having a tough time to manage the crowd.
The queue in front of the supermarkets is nearly 1 km long and in front of the Kadri and Kankanady Market, Mangaluru City Corporation has provided plastic chairs for people to sit while they are waiting for their turn to buy groceries- that was a kind gesture from the MCC side. Speaking to team Mangalorean MCC Executive Engineer Marahallli, who was managing the crowd at Kankanady Market, said, “We have taken all the precautions while people are buying their commodities, and while many are adhering to the guidelines, just a few are ignoring our orders-but we don’t let them abuse the guidelines and shop as their wish. We have also provided chairs so that instead of standing for long hours, they could sit until their turn comes. From 6 am until 9 am it has been under control and we are seeing more people pouring in to buy the groceries etc. We will do our best and at the same time, we expect the citizens also to cooperate with us and follow the guidelines to contain COVID-19. They don’t have to rush all at a time in the morning since the time allotted to buy groceries is until 3 pm.”
If Stray Dogs can follow Social Distancing…..
……..Then Why Can’t Human Beings?
Even the queue in front of the medical stores has been quite long-after two-three days while the meat shops are open, the meat lovers are seen in full hopes to get their favourite meat before the stock runs out- and the shopkeepers have kept a limit. Even the Paanwalas are making brisk business today as if gutka, cigarettes, jarda, etc is part of the essentials- MCC should stop these petty shops from operating.
Like I said earlier in my article “Janarige Innu Saha Bashe Ella”- and that’s happening even today, where people have been abusing social distancing and nothing much the officials and police do- the people have to use their common sense. Period. Yesterday, MLA Vedavyas Kamath had made an announcement stating, “Citizens can go shopping from 6 am till 3 pm, to buy their essentials, but ONLY those essentials which are really needed should be purchased. This crisis is NEW to all of us. So each have their own opinion on how to tackle this. So here is an update and BIG REQUEST. We have had several meetings and discussions and we have come to a conclusion, we also wanted to be sure before giving relaxation. This is the time to alert, Smart and quick. Tuesday on 31st March, there will be relaxation of Lockdown from Morning 6 AM to 3 PM. THIS WILL be continued only on the basis of how CITIZENS tackle this RELAXATION.
MLA had suggested that-
1. Shopping should be done by only one member of the family.
2. It should be QUICK as others will be waiting outside.
3. DO NOT touch the products at SUPERMARKET unnecessarily.
4. Carrying SANITIZERS and TISSUES is a MUST, MASK is 100% MUST and should cover the nose and mouth.
5. Make a SHORT list Tomorrow on what YOU NEED. RICE, Sugar, Dal, Salt, Tea Powder, Pulses, Clothes Washing Powder, Utensils Washing Powder, All OUT, BISCUITS, Bread, Oil, Maida are most required essentials as of now for daily use. You can add only 2-3 products to this.
6. Maintaining a MINIMUM of 2.5 meters is a must.
7. After reaching home directly go for a SHOWER and soak your clothes in Hot Water.
8. Delivery will be there and passes have already been given.
9. No talks with friends or any relatives while going out JUST GO, SHOP and RETURN HOME.
This is only to reduce the shopping time It is high time we follow this. I request you all to follow this to keep our MANGALURU HEALTHY. A Special request to all of you. And I am sure we will pass this phase. #StayHome #StaySafe #MangaloreFightsCorona. And with the help of MCC Officials and volunteers, everything has been under control at many stores, except at the Central Market and other roadside vendors, who are used to break laws anyways.

Visited two shops at 6:30 am yesterday. Nilgiris in ks Rao road . Saw a huge line of cars and people standing/sitting outside but shop shutter were down. Next went to Misbah supermarket in falnir. It was open but saw a huge queue of people. Young ,old and senior citizens maintaining social distancing. But the management was very considerate to senior citizens unlike the other outlets. I just wanted some biscuits but came home and made my own.
