City’s Top Cop & His Colleagues receive 300 plus Threat Calls Post Curfew Riots
Mangaluru : Sources reveal that Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha and few other officers in the department have been receiving threat calls, which has croseedd over 300, post curfew riots that took place in the City few days ago. The Top Cop who was instrumental in implementing preventive measures through Section 144 and Curfew, in the wake of Citizen Amendment Act (CAA) protests has been receiving a flood of threat calls, it is learnt. It is also learnt that attempts are made on his life. Even messages after Internet was back there have been messages against city cops on social media , and the police cyber dept is trying to track down the culprits.
Post the recent violence it is learnt that many have exited out of the My Beat My Pride beat group initiated by the Police Commissioner. Calls are also being made to the police dept landlines, and few calls have been even made from abroad, with persons using abusive language. But police Commissioner is reluctant in giving further details, saying that it is critical and sensitive. “Lot of calls have been received so far, and we are registering a criminal case and will investigate further” had said Compol. Even a senior police officer who was present at the scene during violence has also been receiving a bunch of threat calls.
Sources also reveal, that in a related development, an audio message on Whatsapp has also gone viral, where a man is heard abusing the City cops in tulu language and urging them to seek a transfer or face the consequences. In response the police commissioner has assured of appropriate action against the person or persons behind the whatsapp audio message.
In the meantime, the Police Commissioner Dr Harsha has also requested the citizens if they have any clippings/footage of the recent curfew violence, in order to intensify investigation into the violence that broke out in the Bunder area on 19 December 2019, where two INNOCENT people died in the police firing. The Police Commissioner has appealed to the public to share content related to the violence. Reacting to police commissioner’s tweet the public have already sent quite a few videos, photos of the violence, highlighting lapses by the police.
