Clarification Regarding Recent Incident at Mangaluru Central Railway Station
Mangaluru: Authorities have issued a formal clarification addressing a recent media report concerning an incident involving the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at the Mangaluru Central Railway Station on February 1, 2025. The report in question suggested that an individual, identified as Shri Suresan P.V., suffered an amputation of his leg after allegedly being beaten by RPF personnel.
In light of these claims, we would like to outline the facts as they have been established following a thorough investigation initiated by the Government Railway Police (GRP). On February 6, 2025, the GRP registered a case in Cr.No.03/2025 under Section 118 BNS 2023, responding to the complaint lodged by Shri Suresan P.V. Investigative measures included a comprehensive review of CCTV footage and interviews with duty staff present at the time of the incident.
The CCTV footage from February 1 clearly illustrates the RPF staff engaging with the complainant at approximately 10:38 hours. This footage distinctly shows that Shri Suresan was guided by RPF personnel towards the Railway Food Plaza restaurant and exited the premises without any assistance or coercion. The recorded evidence, which has been preserved and submitted to the GRP, does not corroborate allegations of physical assault or violence on the part of the RPF staff.
Reports indicate that Shri Suresan appeared to be intoxicated and was noted to be in a disoriented state while lying on a bench within the station. He was politely asked to leave the area and subsequently walked towards the main entrance, assisted only by staff members. Notably, no complaints were received from other passengers regarding the interaction, further substantiating that no undue force was employed.
On the same day, the complainant sought medical care at Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore, citing feelings of weakness. Medical assessments revealed that the individual has pre-existing health conditions, including hypertension and diabetes. It is presumed that the amputation of his leg is likely related to these underlying medical issues rather than any altercation with RPF personnel.
In summary, there is no evidentiary basis to support the assertion that any physical harm was inflicted upon Shri Suresan P.V. by the RPF. Instead, the evidence indicates that the RPF acted within the parameters of their duties to maintain safety and order at the station.
The authorities urge the media to refrain from disseminating unfounded claims, and instead, to rely on the verified information provided by official sources.
