‘Cleanliness Best Way to Avoid Malaria’- Raghupathi Bhat
Udupi: “If people keep their houses and surroundings clean, it would not only prevent spreading of malaria but also a number of other diseases,” said Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat.
After inaugurating the anti-Malaria day organised by the district administration in association with the district Health and Family Welfare department at Ravindra Kala Mantapa Udupi on June 22, Raghupathi Bhat said that cleanliness is the best way to avoid the spread of malaria.
“We should create awareness among the public about cleanliness. Every citizen should develop the habit of cleanliness. Officials should create awareness programmes for petty shop owners, Hotel employees, etc. Everyone should join hands to make Udupi a Zero Malaria district,” he said.
Zilla Panchayat president Dinakar Babu appealed to the people to maintain cleanliness during the monsoon to prevent vector-borne diseases. People should ensure that no water is stagnant on the premises of their houses or commercial establishments.
District Malaria controlling Officer Dr Premanand said that cases of malaria in the jurisdiction of Udupi district have come down from 514 in 2017 to 44 in May 2018. The department is working to bring malaria to zero level in the district, he added.
