CM and HM are Directly Responsible for Violence in Mangaluru – Ramanath Rai

All Parties including BJP Allies Oppose NRC and CAB but Shobha Blames Congress – Rai

Mangaluru: “I urge the people of this district not to give chance to any untoward incidents. We strongly condemn the violence in the city. We know the state government has imposed section 144 in the city which led to violence in the city. On December 18, the police commissioner had given permission for the protest to be held on December 19. But all of a sudden Section 144 was imposed on December 18. Normally during section 144, police resort Lathi-charge and if the situation goes out of control curfew is declared. To disperse the protesters, police should first fire shots in the air and use tear gas. But when the situation in Mangaluru was under control, the police opened fire and two persons lost their lives. This is a murder that was facilitated by the state government”, said the former minister Ramanath Rai in a press meet held at the DCC Office, Mallikatta here on December 22.

Addressing the mediapersons Rai said, “When former CM Siddaramaiah was ready to come to Mangaluru by Charter flight he was served notice by the Mangaluru police barring his entry to Mangaluru until December 22 midnight. Being the opposition leader Siddaramaiah has the responsibility to come to Mangaluru and meet the victims’ families. Siddaramaiah has no history of delivering inciting speeches. The BJP is trying to prove that the Congress leaders are delivering inciting speeches, but I want to tell you who are the ones delivering inciting speeches. It is the communal parties that are involved in various crimes whereas the Congress leaders are never involved in any crimes. Only the communal parties deliver inciting speeches and spread enmity in the district. Congress does not support violence nor is involved in violence which can be proved.”

Rai further said, “When the CM came to Mangaluru, Shobha Karandlaje and Nalin came along with him. Everyone is aware of Shobha and Nalin’s history of delivering inciting speeches. Shobha in her press statement has said that Congress is opposing NRC. The NDA partners like Nitish Kumar, Shiromani Akali Dal, Paswan Party, LJP Party, Bahujan Samajwadi Party, Janata Dal, RJD Party and Jaganmohan Reddy are opposing this bill. Shobha also said that former PM Manmohan Singh is opposing the bill. It is not only Manmohan Singh but most of the people of our country are opposing this bill. Blaming only the Congress party for opposing NRC and CAB is baseless. We demand a judicial inquiry in the Mangaluru Violence. Those who have taken the law into their hands should be exposed. The ruling party is blaming Congress for the violence. Some ministers have delivered inciting speeches and statements but when our leaders speak anything they misinterpret their statements. If we take the list from the police stations we will come to know which party is involved in criminal activities. We want to live in peace, the Congress has never incited anyone not will do it. The CM and HM are directly responsible for the violence in Mangaluru since they imposed section 144 unnecessarily which led to the violence.”
