CM Directs Officials to Increase Tax-free Diesel Quota for Fishing Boats
Bengaluru: Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa has directed the Principal Secretary to Government, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries to enhance the tax-free diesel quota for fishing boats to 400 liters per day and also to provide tax-free diesel at the delivery point.
A delegation of Fishermen led by Minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary and Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat met the Chief Minister and sought to resolve various issues as the fishermen are reeling under difficult times due to the diesel price hike, dearth of fish and price fall. Currently, the Government has made fishermen buy diesel with tax and the tax amount is debited to their account later. But this process is cumbersome and the payments are delayed and fishermen are in distress. Therefore the members of the delegation appealed to the Chief Minister to introduce the old system of providing tax-free diesel at the delivery point.
Chief Minister has responded positively to their request and has directed officials to take necessary steps in this regard.
Missing fishermen: Letter to Central Government
The delegation also sought Chief Minister’s intervention to provide compensation to the kins of victims of Suvarna Thribhuja boat tragedy, which had collided with INS ship and drowned. 7 fishermen in the boat could not be traced though the debris was found.
Chief Minister assured them that he would write to the Union Government to provide compensation to the families of the victims.
