CM HDK Should Keep his Promise made to People of Coastal Districts – Yashpal Suvarna

Udupi: “Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy in his budget has totally neglected the coastal districts. After a strong protest by the people of the coastal district, the chief minister has responded. He assured that he would visit the Coastal district within fifteen days, remain there for two days and discuss the demands of the fishermen community. This is the victory for our protest and we congratulate the chief minister for responding to our demands,” said Yashpal Suvarna president of Udupi and DK district fish sellers’ federation.

He was speaking at a press meet held at the Press Club on Monday, July 15. “We welcome the chief minister to hear the long pending demands of the people of the coastal districts including the demands of the fishermen. Our demand is that the Chief Minister should take steps to ensure the continuous development of the coastal districts”.

“The meeting will include the peoples’ representatives, officers of Udupi and neighboring Mangalore and Uttara Kannada districts, fishermen leaders, social thinkers, environmentalists and journalists”, he said.

“We are ready to welcome the chief minister keeping aside all political differences in the interest of the people of the district. We are eager to discuss various demands of fishermen including the decline in agricultural activities in coastal area, encouraging the youth by creating environment-friendly industries, development of the Brahmavar sugar factory, Hejamadi port development, Netravati River Diversion Project, Varahi project, the rehabilitation of people suffering from endosulfan, Infrastructure for the new taluks and many more issues”, he said

“Within fifteen days CM Kumaraswamy should come to Udupi. This time we are confident that he will keep his word given to the people of the coastal districts. If the CM fails to come within fifteen days, we will continue our protest in a big way. We are confident that the Chief Minister will surely fulfill our demands, without giving us the chance to protest”.

Ajith Shetty Kerady and Manju Kola were present during the press meet.
