Mangaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reached the Town Hall to inaugurate various development projects in the city here on April 21.
The programme began with an invocation. Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim welcomed the gathering. CM Siddaramaiah inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.
Siddaramaiah symbolically laid a foundation to, a new District Administrative Building, new block at the Wenlock Hospital, swimming pool of international standards and police quarters at Townhall.
Addressing the gathering Lobo said, “We have to improve basic facilities at the Mangaluru International Airport. If there is development we will see more investment in the district. We have a seaport, airport, railway, educational institutions and Medical institutions. Government should give special attention to the district as there is high scope for development.
Lobo also demanded the government to start an Evening college of Engineering in the district and urged to upgrade the government Wenlock hospital to a medical college. He also urged the government to find a solution to 9/11, kumki, moolageni, single sites and the sand problems.
Health and Family welfare minister U T Khader speaking on the occasion said that the district ministers ensured that all the schemes reached the beneficiaries. He also asked the CM to provide a city with safety schemes and said, “We want a safe city before a smart city.”
District minister in-charge Ramanath Rai speaking on the occasion thanked the Chief minister for all his support towards Dakshina Kannada. Rai said that whenever the people of DK face problems and we approached the CM to solve it, he has taken all necessary steps to solve them. The Chief minister has even promised to solve the 9/11 problem. Ramanath Rai also urged the CM to give a nod to the Paschima Vahini Project, so that the people of DK will not face drinking water problems.
CM has sanctioned Rs 41 crores to the new DC’s office and Rs 105 Crores for a Veterinary college.
CM Siddaramaiah symbolically laid the foundation to the District Administrative block (Rs 41 crore Project), at a 6-acre land which will accommodate all the administrative offices so that people can have easy access to administrative work. CM also laid the foundation to a 176-bed new block of the Wenlock hospital, Rs 5 crore for an international standard swimming pool and police quarters (160 houses).
Addressing the gathering the CM said, “It is the duty of the government to build quarters to the police personnel who are working 24×7.” Of the 150 promises made during the elections, we have fulfilled 100 promises and the rest will be implemented soon. In the next elections, we will surely win and come to power”.He further said, “We introduced a revolutionary order that allows 24.1% of our budget expenditure towards the SC/ST community. This amount cannot lapse even if not used and will be carried forward to the next year. This will give a boost to all those who have been neglected for ages. We are the first government to give relief to arecanut farmers when they faced crop loss.
The poor should also have equal opportunities to start industries and we are working towards making it a reality”.He also said, “If any medical college has come up in Karnataka then it is because of me. I sanctioned them when I was a Finance Minister. Our aim is to give opportunities to the poor to become doctors. We need to make a survey for a detailed report on Paschima Vahini.
We will surely go in the positive direction. The Airport runway extension, a ring road, government evening engineering college and many other demands have come from the district. We are a progressive government and will surely work towards your demands with your blessings”, he assured.MLC Ivan D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks. Later CM proceeded towards Shaktinagar to attend another programme.
Finally glad to see all the elected officials from the area!! Who cares if the city looks like somaalia, right? At least, the ‘shilaanyaasa samaarambha’ looks good with all the colors and lights!! More importantly, the stage didn’t collapse!! Good show, Congress party!!
