CM Siddaramaiah Unveils Pandit Jawaharalal Nehru’s Statue in Nehru Maidan
Mangaluru: To mark the Birth Centenary of the first woman prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi, the statue of Jawaharalal Nehru was unveiled at the Nehru Maidan here on November 19.
The chief minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah unveiled the statue of Pandit Jawaharalal Nehru. Later Siddaramaiah along with other ministers paid tribute by showing flower petals at the statue.
He further said, “In Dakshina Kannada, on this ground on December 25, 1951, Jawaharlal Nehru had delivered a speech, 1951, and in order to remember that day, the ground was named after the first Prime minister as Nehru Maidan. Today the Mangaluru City corporation has erected a statue of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. I am pleased to unveil this statue”, said the Chief Minister.
He further said, “The KPCC and the district congress committee has given me an opportunity to unveil the statue of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, I am very grateful to them. The opposition party does not like to call the Nehru Maidan by its name, instead, they call it as the Central Maidan. I would also like to thank the Mangaluru city corporation for erecting the statue of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru”.
Home minister Dr Parameshwar, District minister In-charge Ramanath Rai, U T Khader and others were also present.
