CM to Inaugurate New MSCL Swimming Pool at Yemmekere in City on 24 November
Mangaluru: The new swimming pool at Yemmekere in the city will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on 24 November 2023 constructed by Mangaluru Smart City Limited for Rs 24.5 crore. Taking a tour of the Swimming pool site, and speaking to reporters, District Minister in -charge Dinesh Gundu Rao said the inauguration of the new swimming pool constructed by the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) will be on the day when the three-day 19th National Masters Swimming Championship will begin in Mangaluru. The inauguration will be in the morning and the championship will start in the afternoon in the same swimming pool.
Speaking to Team Managlorean, MSCL General Manager (Technical) Er K.S. Arun Prabha said “The new Rs 24.5-crore swimming pool on the second floor has 50×25 metre 10-lane Olympic-sized pool, 25×10 metre practice pool, and a 6×13.8 metre children’s pool. Representatives of the State and the national swimming federations have visited the pool and reviewed arrangements for the first competition. As per the contract, the construction agency will operate and maintain the pool for three years, since it is difficult for private parties to run the swimming pool without the support of the government. We can discuss later and decide about the model that can be adopted for the operation and maintenance of the pool”.
When asked whether the pool can used by the locals/citizens of Mangaluru, Raghavendra Shet, the executive Engineer at MSCL said that the new swimming pool is exclusively for the use of professionals/winners of swimming competitions, and for the general public, and also for the use of District/state or National Swimming competitions, Senior councillor and whip in the council Premanand Shetty said the government should discuss with the residents, who were opposed to the new pool because of denial of a playground, before the inaugural ceremony.
With the district administration deciding to hold Karavali Utsav after a gap of three years, Dinesh Gundu Rao directed the district administration to submit a proposal on the estimated cost at the earliest to the government. “Once you get the green signal, you call tenders for the stalls coming up for the Utsav,” he said. DC Mullai Muhilan MP said that discussions have been held to hold Karavali Utsav for 10 days from December 22. It is necessary to organise programmes in a way that attracts tourists from outside the town, state and country, along with the locals.
“To conduct the beach Utsav, kite festival and other programmes, time is needed to call tenders and make necessary preparations,” said Karavali Utsav committee member Manjunath. In response, the minister said that concerning grants, only after a proposal is sent and the administration receives a green signal from the government, necessary action for the conduct of programmes can be taken up.
