CME on Primary Immunodeficiency by KMC Hospital Mangaluru

Mangaluru: A First of its kind in Coastal Karnataka, Kasturba Medical College Mangaluru hosted a Medical Awareness programme on Primary Immunodeficiencies on Sunday 17th December here at the IMA Hall.

The high prevalence of Immunodeficiencies that are genetic, was addressed at the Indian Society of Primary Immune Deficiency (ISPID) awareness programme where more than 100 child specialists and Physicians from Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Kasargod districts participated.

“First of its kind in the coast, the programme is meant to improve awareness among medical professionals about the disorders, to identify, diagnose and refer,” said Dr Harsha Prasad, consultant Paediatrician, hematologist and oncologist, KMC Hospital. “A majority of cases go unidentified until adulthood as there is no awareness created among primary health care practitioners about PID,” he said.

Dr Anand Venugopal Medical Superintendent, KMC Hospital Mangaluru Inaugurated the programme. Dr Manisha Madkaikar from KEM Hospital Mumbai and president of ISPID, Dr Nita Radhakrishna from Superspeciality Paediatric Hospital and Teaching Institute Delhi and general secretary of ISPID, Dr Sagar Bhattad Consultant Pediatric Rheumatologist and clinical Immunology Aster CMI, Bangalore and Dr Harsha Prasad from KMC Hospital were among eminent speakers at the conference. Dr Kamalakshi Bhat HOD Paediatric Department, KMC Hospital Mangaluru were present. Dr Manisha outlined what PID was and the approaches needed. Dr Nita spoke on the diagnosis of HLH and management. Dr Harsha Prasad spoke about infections and PID.
