Coast Guard Kar & NMPT Distribute Essential Ration Kits to the Needy

Mangaluru: In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown imposed in the country since 23rd March 2020 which poses serious challenges to health care, certain segment of people have been facing financial crisis and shortage of grocery required for their daily needs. New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) realising the problems faced by the common man due to lockdown and as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), NMPT extended hands to provide relief materials to daily wages labourers working in ICG. Accordingly, DIG SB Venkatesh and Shri AV Harinath Deputy Chief Engineer (Civil) distributed the relief materials.

DIG SB Venkatesh, Coast Guard Commander Karnataka State being a member of CSR committee of NMPT had said Helping those in need in the aftermath of a notified disaster is an act of kindness. He also extended gratitude to Shri AV Ramana, Chairman NMPT for the noble gesture.

The Officers and Men of ICG will contribute one day’s Basic Pay from their monthly salary from the month of March till September towards PM CARES.

The ICG has been instrumental in helping the society in times of natural disaster distress and always emphasised on betterment of the society as part of its Humanitarian Operations. The distribution of essential commodities took place in compliance with social distancing norms and strict personal distancing, markings were done in front distribution stage.

DIG SB Venkatesh cited some of effective measures undertaken by Coast Guard Karnataka, specifically mentioning activating emergency mechanisms, taking it seriously from the start, repurposing all ICG personnel’s to be self-disciplined, tackle the virus, testing, quarantine, case and contact finding/tracing, mobilizing the population to protect themselves and practicing basic hygiene.
