Coast Guard Karnataka Rescues 24 Fishermen Stranded at Sea
Mangalore: The Indan Coast Guard (ICG) has successfully rescued 24 fishermen stranded at sea 15 nautical miles from coast due to strong winds and swell from fishing boat IFB QAMRUL BAHAR REGD NO IND-KA-04-MM-2467. The rescue was carried off Bhatkal port.
ICG Ship Kasturba Gandhi, which was on operational deployment in Karnataka Coast, was diverted immediately for undertaking search and rescue operation. The ship arrived at the datum at 2000 hours on 10 Sep and established communication with fishermen and reassured the presence of ICG. The Fishing boat lost propulsion owing to engine failure.
In view of rough weather conditions in area the owner of fishing boat had requested DD Fisheries Karwar for rescue of fishermen. Based on request from DD Fisheries the entire rescue operations at Sea was undertaken AM 11 Sep successfully. At around 1030 h on 11 Sep 2020 all fishermen in Good Health were safely shifted onboard by ICG Ship. Thereafter, ship proceeded to Karwar Port for handing over to DD Fisheries.
Further, electronic surveillance in area is being maintained through coastal surveillance network to shepherd fishing boots in area to safer locations and regular weather warning advisory is also being transmitted.
