COD Probe should be done in Quraishi case – MLA Bava
Mangaluru: “I have discussed the issue of Ahmad Quraishi who is suffering from Kidney ailments with the Chief minister. I have also requested the CM to hand over the case to the COD or a Judicial inquiry. When I called the District Medical Officer, she said that Quraishi is suffering from Kidney failure,” said the MLA of Mangaluru North Constituency Moideen Bava in a press meet held at his chamber, MCC here on April 8.
Addressing the mediapersons Bava said, “Ahmad Quraishi being from my constituency on humanitarian grounds I have requested the CM to shift him to a private hospital and the truth should come out. According to the law, the accused should be produced before the court within 24 hours of his arrest. But according to Quraishi’s brother, Quraishi was not produced before the court for five days. Because of the torture from the police, if Quraishi is suffering he should be treated in another hospital. The chief minister has assured of handing over the case to the COD or the judiciary for an inquiry.”
He also said, “When there are any problems, protests should not be held without any notice. No organisation should not take the law into their hands. The government is committed to punishing the culprits and anti-social elements. If anyone takes the law into their hands, there wont be peace in the society. I urge the people of Mangaluru not to take the law into their hands. If anyone violates the law, the government will punish them. Mangaluru is a beautiful place and people here are peace lovers. We all should be united and the fight for justice and not take the law into our hands. A police officer who was on duty was assaulted by miscreants which is condemnable. The officer was doing his duty, by sacrificing his family life he is providing safety for us. If anyone assaults the police the government will punish them”.
