Colourful procession marks 154th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda
Udupi: A colourful procession marked the 154th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda and Yuva Sapthaha programme in Udupi district on Thursday, January 12.
T Venkatesh deputy commissioner of Udupi district flagged off the procession at the Board High School grounds. The procession passed through service bus-stand, Triveni Circle, K M Marg, Diana Circle, Court Road, Old Taluk Office and Culminated at Ajjarkad district grounds.
The stage programme began with the Nada Geethe, Anuradha Additional DC welcomed the gathering T Venkatesh deputy commissioner of Udupi district inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
Dr Vivek Udupa Saligrama delivered a special lecture on Vivekananda’s teachings’ and said that In 1984, it was declared by the Government of India, that 12th January will be observed as the National Youth Day. Since 1985, India annually observes ‘National Youth Day’ on January 12, on the day of social reformer, philosopher and great thinker Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary. Every young Indian, irrespective of faith and religion, should be inspired by Vivekananda as they build their own future. The thoughts of Swami Vivekananda are still relevant to the current society, he added.
Dinakar Babu president of Udupi Zilla panchayat presided over the function. Nalini Pradeep Rao president TP, Priyanka Mary Francis CEO ZP, Kumaraswamy DySP Udupi, Mahesh Chandra Tahsildar Udupi, Gurumoorthy Kulkarni RTO, Divakar Shetty DDPI and others were present.
