Colourful Procession Marks beginning of 41st Junior National Badminton Championship
Udupi: The stage is set to inaugurate the 41st Junior National Badminton Championship here from December 12 to 17 with a massive cultural procession.
The colourful procession that was flagged off by Oscar Feranades Rajya Sabha member at the Government High School grounds near Service Bus-stand with more than 20 cultural troupes, bands and more than 600 sports persons from across the country accompanying the long parade.
The procession passed through Service bus-stand, Triveni Circle, City Municipal Council office, K M Marg, Diana Circle, Court Road, Old Taluk office, Diana Hotel, and culminated at the Indoor Stadium Ajjarkad.
The tableaus portraying traditional Karnataka culture like Chande, Maragalu, Karwar Band, Kerala Chende, Karaga, Hulivesha and other various cultural activities replicated Karnataka culture at its best.
After the cultural troupes sports persons from all the 30 states were taken in a open vehicle procession.
The tourney will be held in the four synthetic courts at the district indoor stadium in Udupi and an equal number of synthetic courts at Marina Indoor Stadium in Manipal. It will be held in singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories.
The tourney will be inaugurated here by Akhilesh Das Gupta, president of the Badminton Association of India, at 6 p.m. on December 12.
