Commissionerate receives 18 Calls during Phone-in hour Programme

Mangaluru: The police commissionerate received 18 calls in an hour in the direct Phone-in programme, here on December 2.

The direct phone-in programme initiated by Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar in August to understand the problems, faced by the people of Mangaluru was a great success after receiving 18 calls in an hour.

Most of the calls received were about the traffic problems. In Urwa the daily wage labourers loiter on the roadside till 10 am which disrupt the smooth vehicular movement and also causes problems for the public. DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil assured to look into the matter and take appropriate action.

The second caller of the day said that at Bendurwell the vehicles from Bendur – Nanthur- Kulshekar alight the passengers in the middle of the road which disrupts the smooth vehicular movement.

The third caller said that the city buses stop the buses at bus stops for a long time causing inconvenience to the public as well as other vehicles moving on the road. Action should be taken against the bus drivers who do not stop the bus in designated stops but alight the passengers wherever they wish, even in the middle of the road. Most of the two-wheeler riders do not follow traffic rules, they do not use side mirrors or indicators while riding.

Another caller said that during the checking of vehicles police take the documents from owners/drivers which should be stopped. The fifth caller said that buses plying to Bengaluru and other places are parked carelessly on PVS – Karangalpadi road, which disrupts the smooth flow of traffic.

The next caller said that during the registration of apartments there are several hurdles which should be addressed and action taken. Vehicles including two-wheelers are parked carelessly in front of the HDFC Bank Kadri, vehicles also go in the opposite direction on a one-way road to the petrol bunk which should be stopped.

There was a missing case registered in Suratkal police station, the caller asked the police to inform the status of the case. Some fish laden lorries spill water on the road while transporting fish, which should be stopped, said a caller. At Mangaluru Hills, every weekend parties are being held with loud music causing nuisance to the public and nearby residents. DCP Dr Sanjeev Patil assured of taking action.

There is gambling going on in Baikampady and no action has been taken against the person running the club. A senior citizen said that the seats which are reserved for the senior citizens, women and handicap in the bus are occupied by other passengers.

At the entrance of the KSRTC bus stand in Bejai, drunkards and migrant labourers trouble commuters. At Kottara near St Mary’s school, there is a wine shop which is against the rules.

DCP Sanjeev Patil assured to take action against those who violate traffic rules. For seats in the bus for senior citizens, Dr Patil said to immediately inform the police by dialing 100. Action will be taken against such buses where seats are not reserved for senior citizens, women and the handicap.
