Commotion between Congress and BJP workers in Udupi, Police resort to Lathi-charge
Udupi: The Congress party workers were requesting the vendors to shut down their shops to support the Bharat Bandh on September 10. But when the BJP workers opposed it there was a commotion between both the groups.
The Congress member Prabhakar along with some party workers requested the shop owners in Kadiyali to shut down their shops to support the bandh. The BJP worker Chiatra opposed it and started to shout pro-Modi slogans in front of the Congress party workers. Later the Congress party workers also started to shout pro-congress slogans.
When the BJP workers started to gather in front of the shop under the leadership of Girish Kumar and started to shout Pro -Modi slogans, a commotion erupted between the BJP and Congress party workers and the situation was going out of control.
Later the Congress party workers reached near the SP office Bannanje and asked the support from the people for the bandh and urged them to keep their shops closed until evening. Meanwhile, the BJP activists also arrived at the same place and started to shout Pro Modi slogans. A fight erupted between the BJP and Congress activists. In the fight between the two groups, BJP leader Prabhakar Poojary was injured.
SP Laxman Nimbargi reached the spot and requested both the party workers to leave the spot but they were adamant to the SP’s order. To bring the situation under control the police resorted to a mild lathi charge.
