Commotion Between MLA Kamath, Congress Leaders and Police near Jyothi Circle on Bharat Bandh

Mangaluru: It was like a Yakshagana scene near Dr Ambedkar Circle aka Jyothi Circle, when a commotion erupted between Mangaluru South MLA Vedvyas Kamath, Police Commissioner T R Suresh, Congress leaders and part workers, DCP Uma Prashanth, ACP Manjunath Shetty and other police officials.

On Monday morning 10 September on the day of Bharath Bandh called by a bunch of organizations and Congress Party, a few members of Congress party including former MLA J R Lobo, MCC Corporators and Congress party workers staged a protest near Jyothi Circle by squatting on middle of the road and raising slogans against PM Modi and BJP government and against rising in price of fuel. During that time when MLA Vedvyas Kamath was passing by that area, the congress workers raised loud slogans against him.

MLA Kamath fumed at this kind of rude gesture, stopped his car and addressing the media persons said, “This is against the will of the citizens and government that these congress leaders have forced for a bandh, which results in huge losses to the government and others. It’s sad to note that the district administration, including the DC has supposed this bandh. Why are police not taking any action against these congress party workers who are blocking the road and causing inconveniences to the motorists and the public. This looks like the police department and congress are hand in hand with each other. Like the police told me to stop talking here, they should also disperse the protesters from this area”.

After finishing his talk with the media, MLA Kamath went and confronted the Police Commissioner T R Suresh with loud voice for showing partiality towards the Congress- for which the police Commissioner said that he is neutral, and is not showing any partiality, but will take care of the situation- and asked MLA Kamath to leave. After much argument and reluctance to leave the area, finally MLA Kamath decided to leave, and once again addressed the media. Tit-for-tat, it was now the turn of Congress party members to show their power- a few of them rushed towards Police Commissioner and other police officers, including DCP Uma Prashanth, and asked them, what was the need of MLA Kamath to come to the spot and create all this drama, when the call for bandh was given by congress and various other organizations- the congress workers were about to confront MLA Kamath, but were controlled by the cops.

Police ordered everyone at the spot to leave- and the congress workers started marching down Balmatta road towards Kankanady, followed by heavy police force behind them. Near Bendorewell a bunch of JD {S} workers were seen protesting, and police taking action, arrested them and took them away in the police bus. Later a bunch of congress workers were also arrested and taken away.
