Community Hall for KSA, Roy Castelino Hands Over Memorandum to Mayor
Mangaluru: The members of the Konkani Sahitya Academy submitted a memorandum to the Mayor of MCC at his office, demanding a community hall here, on June 29.
The president of the Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino submitted the memorandum to Mayor Harinath. Castelino said that since two years, the academy has been trying to get land to construct a community hall but has failed in its attempts. “Last year in July, we had submitted a memorandum to the MCC but so far we have not received any positive response. In fact, our demands have been rejected by the committee,” he added.
Roy demanded land from the government which has been identified next to the KSRTC Bus stand.
In response, Mayor Harinath said that the memorandum which was submitted by the Konkani Sahitya Academy was received by the council and the same was sent to the committee but the committee did not responded positively to give the land. We will once again review the memorandum and try our best to provide land. Our support is always there for the Konkani community,” said the Mayor.
Basti Vaman Shenoy said, “We want a community hall for the academy to hold our programmes. We have submitted a memorandum to the Mayor requesting the government to provide us land. Mayor Harinath has also assured us of providing the land to build a community hall for KSA.”
All the office bearers of Konkani Sahitya Academy were present while handing over the memorandum.
