Complete pending NH work before toll collection – Pratap Shetty
Udupi: Service roads and other amenities should be completed before the collection of tolls said Pratap Shetty president of National Highway Awareness Committee. He was speaking at a press meet held at the Press Club here on February 24.
The construction of the service roads have been kept pending by the company, after the intervention of peoples representatives the toll collection for KA 20 vehicles has been temporary suspended till February 25. The company will be starting to collect toll from February 25 which should be suspended for KA 20 vehicles till the meeting is convened with the Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka. A meeting was organized with NHAI and Navayuga Company Officials by Udupi-Chikkamagaluru LS constituency MP Shobha Karandlaje during which they have been instructed not to collect toll till the meeting with Chief Secretary is scheduled.
Work like construction of service roads, drainage, bus stand and other amenities are pending. The pending work should be completed effectively to initiate the collection of toll. If the demands put forth are not met the association will launch severe agitation against the government. The people who are living in the proximity of 20kms should be given exemption as they are regular commuters, he added.
