The conference was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by chief guest- Col. Binu Sharma-Senior Vice President Nursing Service, Columbia Asia Hospitals-India, along with other dignitaries on the dais namely- Fr Richard Coelho- Administrator, FMCH, Victoria D’Almeida-Vice Principal-Fr Muller College of Nursing, Darryl Aranha, Shiji PJ- Organizing secretary of the conference, and Tika Bhavani, secretary – 2nd year M.Sc Nursing student.

Addressing the gathering, Col. Binu Sharma said, “The conference is aimed at creating a platform for nursing professionals to exchange ideas and address critical issues in regard to advance nursing clinical roles and skills. It also enables spacing and empowers nurses to make decisions for their patients to enhance their quality of life and excel clinically further. I am extremely happy to be here at this prestigious institution where excellent nurses have passed out with flying colours, and many are employed at Columbia Asia Hospital-Bengaluru. We should know that the provision of health care across the globe is changing, to reflect both the needs and demands of those who require professional services and those who pay for it.”

She further said, “The demographic changes, new disease patterns and advances in technology all impact on the way care is planned and delivered. The focus on wellness, ill health prevention and care also affect the skills and competencies needed by the staff who operate in a 21st-century health care system. Attending this conference, you nurses will identify the variety of extended and expanded roles of nurses and how to implement them in Indian scenario and incorporate the advanced nursing roles in the modern Indian scenario. You will also be able to analyse the Indian scenario and upgrade yourselves to take up advanced roles in clinical. During the conference, you will also be discussing the challenges faced by the nurses in the health care profession in providing quality care”.

Fr Richard Coelho addressing the gathering said, “Being just a nurse with a degree certificate is not enough-you need to have capabilities and skills of a nurse to perform your duties. There are a huge number of nursing jobs, but only trained and knowledgeable nurses are preferred for the posts. Without required capabilities and skills you cannot survive in the market. This conference is indeed a must for the present nurses to serve the patients with care and love. I know there is a huge demand by outside hospitals for the nurses who pass out of Fr Muller’s because of the education and training they get here. But sadly due to this our Fr Muller Hospital has been facing a shortage of nurses here. I humbly request the nurses to stay with Fr Muller’s and help the community locally. Thank you and may God bless you all”.

The nursing college bulletin “Nightingale” and E-Souvenir of the conference was released during the occasion. The vote of thanks was delivered by Shiji PJ, and the programme was professionally compered by Dr Smitha MV -professor at Srinivas College of Nursing, and Benji- IInd year M.Sc student of Father Muller college of Nursing.
