Congress all set to Contest Assembly Elections, Rahul to Campaign in DK – Ramanath Rai
Mangaluru: “The Congress party is all set to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections which will be held on May 12 in the state. In Dakshina Kannada, all the candidates have filed their nominations and are preparing for the election campaign. We do not have any differences or confusion in the party. Earlier AICC President Rahul Gandhi had come for the election campaign and on May 27, Rahul will be visiting Bantwal for the election campaign”, said the candidate for Bantwal constituency, Ramanath Rai in a press meet held at the DCC office Mallikatta here on April 24.
Addressing the mediapersons Ramanath Rai said, “On April 27, at 10:00 am, Rahul Gandhi will be addressing the party workers and I request all the party workers and the public to gather and make the programme successful. The Assembly elections will be the deciding factor for the Lok Sabha elections which will be held in 2019. The Congress party has worked for the poor and the marginalized and people of DK have benefitted a lot because of the 94(C), implemented b the Congress Party. We hope the Congress party to win in all the 8 constituencies.”
Communal forces are trying to divide the society in the name of religion but the Congress party is working in favour of secularism. From Kanyakumari to the Himalayas the only secular party is the Congress. I request the people to support a secular party. The election manifesto for DK will be released in Mangaluru. On the same day, Rahul Gandhi will go to Dharmasthala to visit the temple.”
When asked about MP Nalin Kumar’s statement that Ramanath Rai should retire, Ramanath Rai said, “Time will tell who is going to retire after the 2019 elections. The BJP leaders are preparing to give rest to MP Nalin. I am working till 3:00 am every day for the constituency but MP Nalin is sleeping at 3:00 pm. Wherever people invite me I attend the programmes until late night. I am a secular person and I believe in secularism, I am not involved in any communal violence”.
When asked about the Youth Congress being upset in the ticket issue and in a press meet called recently had said that all the youth leaders would follow their leader if he joined any other party, Ramanath Rai said, “The youth leader in question has not given any such statement to the media. There is no confusion, if the Youth leaders/members had handed over their resignation to the DCC president we would have explained and convinced them. But they have not given their resignation to us. The BJP is a broken house, in Bengaluru, there are 8 doors and in DK the BJP has five doors. They are involved in criticizing their senior leaders.”
DCC President Harish Kumar, Election campaign in-charge U B Venkatesh, Mayor Bhasker K, Mamatha Gatti, Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza, Sashidhar Hegde, Dhananjay Adpangaya and others were also present.
