Congress and Opposition Corporators Protest against Mayor, Walk-out of Council Meeting
Mangaluru: Today March 30 was not a good day for Mayor Kavitha Sanil as the President of the Health committee Nagaveni staged a protest against the distribution of various schemes to the beneficiaries on March 31.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Nagaveni said, “When I am the president of the health committee, the Mayor without my knowledge has organized a programme on March 31 to distribute funds of various schemes to the beneficiaries. Being the president of the Health committee if I have been kept out of the programme related to my department, how can I provide justice to the people? I will not allow the meeting to resume until I get the clarification. I will protest sitting here demanding justice, I will fight for my rights by boycotting the meeting, corporators from other wards are also in my favour.”
Speaking to mangalorea.com opposition leader Sudhir Shetty said, “The Mayor, without the knowledge of the president of the Health committee has organised the programme on the directions of the District minister in-charge. We will all support the president of Health committee, being a Dalit she is fighting for her rights and demanding justice. We will not allow the council meeting to continue until a clarification is given by the Mayor.”
Most of the Corporators from the opposition and also from the ruling party walked out of the meeting. They demanded the Mayor to postpone the programme.
