Congress Condemns Implementation of Uniform Civil Code – Poojary
Mangaluru: Senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary held a press meet at the DCC office here, on July 2.
Addressing the mediapersons, Poojary said that the BJP government led by Narendra Modi is planning to implement Uniform Civil Code in 5 states. “Our country has unity in diversity and people from various walks of life live in India. The Congress party condemns the initiative by the BJP government to implement the Uniform Civil Code.”
“In Hindu dharma, during marriage couples follow Saptapadi, Christians follow a different method in marriage and in Muslim weddings, the groom makes the marriage vows in the presence of the bride’s father. Is it necessary to implement Uniform Civil Code?” he questioned.
Poojary further said that the BJP is implementing Uniform Civil Code for vote bank. “When the Congress was in power, we did not allow the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. Before implementing the UCC, the government should first discuss it with all the religious leaders. Without discussing, the BJP government should not take their own decision in implementing UCC,” he added.
According to Article 44 of the Constitution, the state shall endeavour to secure for the citizens a uniform civil code throughout the country. A Uniform Civil Code means a common set of laws governing personal matters for all citizens, irrespective of religion.

On the one hand, these characters lecture everyone on ‘secular’ values and on the other hand play some of the most vicious communal politics one can ever see.
Let’s see how many on this form would come forward and support Uniform civil code for all Indians. smiles….
