Congress Condemns Utilization of Labour Welfare Funds for Flood Relief – U T Khader
Mangaluru: “The Congress party condemns the utilization of Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board funds for flood relief. There are 14 various schemes for the Construction workers and funds have been reserved for them. But the government is trying to utilize those funds for flood relief. This is an injustice to the Construction workers”, said former minister U T Khader in a press meet held at the Circuit House here on September 28.
Addressing the mediapersons U T Khader said, “The state government lacks funds for flood relief. To provide compensation to the flood victims, the government should not utilize the funds of construction workers or any other schemes. The state government should take measures to get the funds for flood relief from the Central government. The state government has not called an all-party meeting to discuss the issue nor has any delegation met the Central minister. We have 25 MPs in our state but no one is ready to take any responsibility. The central government is giving step-motherly treatment to the state in the distribution of funds for flood relief.”
U T Khader further said, “I do not want our Chief Minister to be insulted in Delhi. We have party differences but when it comes to the development of our state, we are with the CM, we too need funds for the development of the state”.
U T Khader also said, “The MPs, MLAs and the elected members should not be irresponsible when there are any issues circulated through social media. They aim should be to create harmony and not to incite people. Those spreading hatred through social media should be punished. In a recent incident in a mall, a youth was thrashed by a group for his remarks. The police should take strict action against those who disturb communal harmony in the society. The elected members should not support those who create communal tension in society”.
When asked about the division in the party, Khader said, “All the senior party leaders are with us. Those who are trying to divide us will not be successful in their mission. The KPCC leaders have taken the opinion from the party workers and leaders to appoint a president for the District Congress Committee. Those who perform well will be given the post of the president. I am not an aspirant and not one in the future too.”
“I urge the MP of DK Nalin Kumar Kateel to repair the national Highways because they become no more motorable. Now the rain has stopped and the roads in Pumpwell – Thokkottu, Nanthur – Moodbidri are in pathetic condition. I have learnt about the lack of funds to repair the highway, but tour MP should take the initiative to repair the Highways”.
