Congress Directly Responsible for Hike in MCC Water Tariff – MLA Kamath
Mangaluru: The Congress party has looted people by hiking the price of the MCC water supply. The hike in the supply of MCC water is a burden to the people of Mangaluru. From the past five years, the congress party which was ruling the MCC failed to collect the drinking water bills. The earlier mayors were continuously trying to recover the payment of water bills by publishing the names of the defaulters in newspapers but failed in their attempts. When U T Khader was the district minister in-charge in the coalition government, the water charges were hiked doing injustice to the people of Mangaluru”, said the MLA of Mangaluru South Constituency Vedavyas Kamath in a press meet held at the BJP office here on November 4.
Addressing the mediapersons Vedavyas Kamath said, “When the coalition government was in power, the charges for supply of water were hiked three to four hundred percent. The water charges were increased from April 2019 without prior information. The sudden rise in the water bills put the common man in trouble. This is an unscientific hike and the Congress party is directly responsible for the hike. Earlier the minimum charges for 24,000 litres of water was Rs 65 per month and additional consumption of 1000 litres was Rs 2.5. With the new price, the minimum charges per month for 8,000 litres consumption is Rs 56 and Rs 9 for additional consumption of 1000 litres of water.”
Vedavyas further said, “After hiking the price for water, the MCC did not issue any bills to the consumers for four months, since the MCC staff were utilised to check Malaria and Dengue cases in the city. When they started to issue the bills in September some people got bills of Rs 24000 causing a huge burden to the common man. The Congress failed to maintain the water price but are now blaming the BJP for the hike. When the BJP was in power in the MCC the water was supplied without any interruption. But when the coalition Govt. was in power, even during the monsoon, they failed to provide an uninterrupted supply of drinking water. In the coming elections, the people of Mangaluru will give a befitting reply to the Congress. I have visited many houses for the election campaign and all say that they are fed-up with the Congress.”
BJP leaders Ravindra Kumar, Raj Gopal Rai and others were also present.
