Congress Fact-finding Committee Visits Pumpwell Flyover

Mangaluru: The Congress Fact-finding Committee visited the Pumpwell flyover to access the progress of the work on January 27.

After discussing the progress of the flyover work with NHAI officer Ramesh, MLC Ivan D’Souza speaking to the mediapersons said, “From the past 10 years the flyover work at Pumpwell is going on. Since there was no progress in the construction work of the flyover we formed a fact-finding committee in December 2019. Later we visited the flyover thrice to check on the progress of the work and exert pressure on those responsible to finish the work soon. Wherever we got the opportunity we have highlighted and discussed the flyover issue to see that the work would be completed soon. MP Nalin Kumar had said that he would complete the flyover work by December 31 but failed to do so. We had given him a deadline to complete the work by December 31 and said that we would along with the public inaugurate the flyover on January 1 if it was not completed by December 31. Accordingly, as a mark of protest, we inaugurated the flyover on January 1”.

Ivan further said, “Our main aim was to complete the work soon since people passing through the Pumpwell junction face a lot of problems. Today we met the concerned officer and he has assured us of completing the work by January 31. On January 31, the Pumpwell flyover will be motorable for the general public.”

Ivan also said, “During the meeting at the DC Office MP Nalin Kumar had said that from the past two years the Navyug company had given him several deadlines of completing the work but failed to fulfill their promise. The MP also said that he could not continue as the in-charge of the work and handed over the charge of the Pumpwell flyover work to DC Sindhu Roopesh. I would like to congratulate DC Sindhu and the administration for the work. We are happy with the flyover work because finally, the flyover will be motorable from January 31. Now the height of the flyover is of grave concern since it is only 4.5 meters whereas according to the standards should be 5.5 meters. Along with the flyover, the safety of the people should also be taken care of. The service roads should be repaired and the action should be taken to set right the rainwater drains so that no water accumulates in the place.”

DCC president Harish Kumar said, “The Congress party had formed a fact-finding committee and visited the flyover thrice. During our last visit in December, they had assured of completing the work by January 31. The flyover will be made motorable but this is not the end, the underpass has to be completed, the drainage system should be set right and service roads should also be completed. We have waited for 10 years, we demand the Highway work be completed according to the agreement. The MP of DK has washed his hands in regard to the flyover work. Now the District Administration is taking care of the flyover work and I would like to congratulate DC Sindhu Roopesh for her efforts in completing the work in a swift way”.

Corporators Naveen D’Souza, Praveenchandra Alva, Taluk Panchayat president Mohammed Monu, Keshav Maroli, Ashith Pereira, Neeraj Chandra Pal, Shabbir, Jayasheel Adyanthaya, Shamshuddin, Hemanth Garodi and Nazir Bajal were also present.
