Udupi: Kicking off the third leg of his Karnataka Janashirvada Yatra, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, March 20 at Padubidri said that the Siddaramaiah led Congress government has followed the teaching of philosopher Basavanna and also asked Prime minister Narendra Modi to follow the same.
As per Basavanna’s Nudidanthe Nade teaching the Congress government in Karnataka has delivered on the promises it had made to the people. Modi, too, had made promises about employment and bringing back black money. Now, remember Basavanna’s words. Did Modi fulfil any of his promises?
Udupi has given birth to 5 banks. Modi had promised to credit Rs 15 lakh each into your accounts, provide two crore jobs and vowed not to allow corruption. But he failed on all fronts. We believe in Nudidante nade.
Accusing the PM of favouring industrialists, whatever you do, you do it for people like industrialists. You give thousands of crores of Rupees to the super-rich people in the country; while in Karnataka we give seven kg rice free of cost to the poor.
If this country stands as equal to other countries of the world today, it has not happened in two years. It has taken years of time, sweat and blood of common people. Modi should stop insulting the common man,” he told a party rally at Padubidre in coastal Udupi district.
No single person can take a country forward, he noted.
Gandhi spoke about social reformers to attack the BJP, which he accused of dividing people.
“BJP people talk about dharma, but wherever they go, they divide people by pitting one against the other. On one side they praise Basavanna and Narayana Guru (social reformers), and on the other every day they indulge in things that these two great people fought against,” he said.
Noting that five major banks originated in Udupi district, Gandhi said the Congress party’s idea behind that was to take banks to the people, and blamed the Modi government for mounting non-performing assets (NPAs).
“We took banks to villages, but if you see today there are NPAs worth lakhs of crore of rupees of rich people.
“About 10-15 rich persons of India have taken away your Rs 8 lakh crore. In the last few years, BJP has waived Rs 2.5 lakh crore loans taken by 15 rich people… but when a farmer asks for loan waiver Narendra Modi and Arun Jaitley (Finance Minister) say it is not our policy,” he added.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that Whatever promises Modiji had made, before and after the parliamentary elections, have not been fulfilled. Demonetisation and the new tax regime (goods and services tax) have totally failed. The BJP-led NDA government has not fulfilled any of the promises it made. It failed to create jobs, bring back black money and brought down the country’s economy. Our government has fulfilled more than 90% of what was promised in our manifesto. The people of Udupi should bless the Congress party in the upcoming elections too, he added.
