Congress involved in Creating fake Voter IDs – BJP

Mangaluru: “In Mangaluru City Corporation there is an Electoral registration office which comes under the revenue department. Every year the process of addition, deletion and correction in the voters list is being done here. But this year all of a sudden we have seen bundles of applications come to this office to obtain voter IDs. This is a misuse of power. According to the law, every voter should provide proper documents to get the voter ID, but in the MCC, for the registration of voters, people have to stand in the queue whereas some people bring bundles of applications and inform the office staff that they will get a call. Our party worker has video recorded the entire process in the electoral registration office. More than 700 applications received are those of students to be added illegally to the voter list, those students are from outside the state who come here to pursue PUC, nursing, medical or post graduation”, said Monappa Bhandary in a press meet held at the BJP office here on January 22.

Addressing the meidapersons Monappa Bhandary said, “More than 10000 names have been enrolled to the voter list from January 1 to November 30, 2017. Most of the students come from outside the state and stay in hostels. MLA of  Mangaluru South Constituency is directly involved in enrolling the names of these students. The officials are blindly adding the names of the students with a letter from the warden of the hostel. In the Electoral registration office, the politicians appoint their men to get their work done.”

Monappa Bhandary further said, “There is one Santhosh and another Mohammed who are receiving the applications from the hostel wardens. Santhosh and Mohammed are involved in enrolling the names in the voters list. One of the journalists told me that he had gone to apply for his daughter’s voter ID but was denied giving various reasons. The officers are issuing voter IDs only to those who are in favour of them. We will visit the election commission and the Deputy Commissioner and file a complaint against the concerned officers. The DC should take action and check the list of voters who had applied from January 1 to November 30, 2017. In the last elections, MLA J R Lobo won with 16000 votes because he has added the voters from Kottayam and Kerala. There are allegations that the MLA has hired an agency to go to every house to check the voters list. If they don’t meet the people during their visit, the names will be deleted from the Voters list. If they are doing good work we will praise them. In some buildings where many flats are empty, the Congress workers obtain voters id giving the address of those flats. Lobo has appointed his own people in the electoral registration office. We are preparing a list of the voter IDs and hand it over to the DC to take strict action against those who are involved in illegal work.”

Vedavyas Kamath said, “MLA J R Lobo was the officer and he is aware of the electoral registration process. Being an officer and becoming the MLA by cheating is a shame. If he would have won the elections with the people’s vote it was a pride for all of us but by creating illegal voter id’s and winning the elections is a shame. This time also the MLA is trying to win the elections by creating illegal voter ID’s. I would like to congratulate the party worker Sudheer for recording the illegal work being carried out at the Electoral registration office.”

Former MLA Yogish Bhat said, “Last time J R Lobo had won the elections by creating fake voter IDs. Fake voter IDs were also created in other constituencies last time by the Congress to win the elections. We are collecting information from every constituency. For online enrollment, the officers should approve the application for the entries to be done. But now the officers are approving applications without following the procudures. The DC should investigate these allegations thoroughly and take action against those involved in creating fake IDs.
