Congress-JDS Coalition Govt Preventing Free Speech in the state – C T Ravi

Mangaluru: The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party Karnataka State General Secretary, Chikkamagaluru MLA C T Ravi has slammed the state government for arresting Journalist Santosh Thammaiah on charges of airing his views against the Tipu Jayanti. He accused the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition government of preventing free speech in the state.

Speaking at the press meet held at the District BJP office Mangaluru on November 14, C T Ravi said that this is an attempt to appease the minorities, the state government of HD Kumaraswamy is against the Hindus. The ‘Hindus are under attack’ and voices needed to be raised against the ruling coalition’s ‘Political Goondagiri’.

“Santosh Thammaiah who spoke about the brutalities against Hindus by tyrant Tippu Sultan has been arrested by the Communal Government in Karnataka. Bhagavan and Pseudo Intellectuals like him who have consistently abused Hindu Gods are roaming free in the state” alleged Ravi.

The Congress – JDS government arrested Santhosh Thammaiah at midnight for speaking against Tipu Sultan in Gonikoppal. Then why the state government is not arresting the people who are always using abusive words against Hindu Gods and Goddesses in the state? he questioned.

Further, Ravi said that the Indian government has banned Naxalism in the country. Recently playwright Girish Karnad was holding a placard which read ‘Me Too Urban Naxal’. Karnad carried the placard in the Jatha in Bengaluru. The government is showing a soft corner for these people, it clearly shows the government’s divide and rule policy in the state which is condemnable.

Earlier the Siddaramaiah led Congress government was misusing the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to foist false cases against its opponents in Karnataka. The present JDS- Congress government is also moving one step ahead and has started to misuse the CCB and COD in the state. The BJP condemns the attitude of the state government, he said.

When the Union government banned Rs 1000 and Rs 500 denomination notes many Congress leaders and ministers in the government had welcomed the move of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But the same Congress leaders are now protesting against demonetization. demonetization has not affected the common people in the country. Demonetization has helped to curb black money and corruption, people need to move to the digital economy and cashless transactions. Tax compliance has increased after demonetization, though in hindsight it appears that the whole process could have been handled in a better manner. Tax compliance improved after demonetization, he said.

Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Puttur MLA and also district BJP president Sanjeev Matandoor and others were present.
