Congress Leader Confronts Cop during Routine Drunk Driving Check

Mangaluru: Here is a story how powerful a politician could be when he violates drunk driving rules, and then assaults an innocent traffic policeman who was doing his duty as per the law, during a routine drunk driving check. As per the story explained to Team Mangalorean by Kadri East Police Station constable Puttaram, aged 30, hailing from Hassan and employed at this Station for nearly six years said, “On Saturday, 30th December night we were stationed opposite to the Kadri Circuit house doing our routine check on drunk driving. During the late night hours, I stopped a car coming from Battagudda and going towards KPT as part of our traffic check”.

“The driver of the car who was in a drunken stupor was upset for stopping his car, questioned me in a loud voice how dare I stop a politician’s car and questioned about my credentials. I was just doing my job, like checking every car irrespective of an ordinary person or a politician. But later we came to know that this drunk person was a Congress leader Amruth Kadri, who is at the helm as Director of Coastal Development Authority. Following our procedure, I insisted that the driver obey orders and rules. Angered by this the driver got out of the car, confronted me, held me by the collar and abused me with bad words in Tulu language, and also ripped a portion of my shirt/badge. He also tried to push me down, but I managed to stay firm, thereby avoiding getting hurt” added Puttaram.

Puttaram further said, “This person assaulted me even before we insisted him on taking a breath analyzer test for alcohol in his system. This check was part of our routine drunk driving check which we usually conduct during the weekends. I was just doing my job as per my duties. But I deeply regret imagining the scenario of a politician treating a policeman the way I was treated. His assault on me has defamed me a lot, and I am very much hurt. Not able to control my feelings I went ahead and filed a case against this politician in the Urwa Police station. The FIR sheet and the breath analyzer test results are at Urwa Police station for further investigations and action to be taken against this drunk driver”.

According to Urwa police station, Amruth tested positive for drunken driving after they conducted a breath analyzer test after his tirade against the police constable. The test result on Amruth showed 84 mg, against the limit of 30 mg that is allowed. The police have booked Amruth Kadri under IPC sections 353, 341, 323 and 504.

God bless Mr Puttaram, the traffic Police Officer, for keeping his cool inspite of being abused and roughed up by Mr Amruth Kadri. If he too would have to retaliate, what difference would it make between the good and the bad! No Indian citizen, in authority or a member of any party, is above the law – everyone is same and with equal rights. Mr Kadri should apologize to Mr Puttaram for his drunken state and rude behaviour. Just because one is a member of the Congress Party does not give the right to abuse and manhandle anyone, leave alone… Read more »

Puttaram is a very honest responsible traffic policeman. I remember how he stopped his bike one day to help an old lady cross the road in bejai although he was off duty. Again another instance was he helped children cross from school although he was stationed at another point. Higher ups must strict action on the said politicians and alsoban tinted cars. These tinted cars have immoral activities going on and some police personnel are aware but don’t stop these cars since they belong to bigwigs.

Excellent we support Mr. Puttaram for implementing the rule of law without fear or favour. It is not easy for an officer of the law to pull-up a ruling party politician and Mr. Puttaram deserves to be applauded for doing his duty well. We also congratulate the MCP for framing charges against the offending politician and not letting him get away with it.
