Congress Leaders Rai, Khader, Bava and Harish Visit Pachanady Dumping Yard

Mangaluru: Congress party leaders visited the Pachanady dump yard and met the residents of the area on August 21.

Former district minister in-charge Ramanath Rai speaking to mangalorean.com said, “The slipping of the Pachanady dump yard is another big disaster after Beltangady. Due to the incessant rain, many have lost their land and houses in Beltangady. In Pachanady also due to the heavy rains heaps of waste which was dumped in the Pachanady dumping yard has slipped and moved in the residential and agriculture area, locals residing in this area have been moved to a safe place. The regional commissioner should visit this place and see for himself the damage caused”.

Ramanath Rai further said, “Government should sanction at least Rs 100 crore package to develop this area. The people of this area should be rehabilitated. When I was the MLA for four terms, the Tiruvail Kettikal road had collapsed and I immediately visited the spot and constructed a new road. The government should respond immediately on a priority basis, the residents of this area have been living here even before the dumping yard had come up in this place. When we were in power, we had taken measures when the residents complained of foul smell in the area.”

Ramanath Rai also said, “The horticulture department and higher officials should visit the place and initiate action before it gets worse. The BJP leaders visit the spot and blame the previous government. Instead of blaming the previous government, let they initiate action to solve the problem of the residents who have been temporarily rehabilitated in the Housing board. In the Tiruvail incident, we had rehabilitated the affected families immediately, I urge the government to take this incident on a priority basis and sanction Rs 100 crore.”

Speaking to mangalorean.com former minister U T Khader said, “This incident happened on August 6 and now even after 15 days the ruling party has no idea or an action plan to solve the problem. The MP or MLAs are not able to bring the principal secretary of Urban development to the spot to study the situation. From the past 16 days the MLA does not have any action plan to deal with the situation but the local corporator Bhaskar took the initiative to rehabilitate the affected families and has also constructed a temporary road. If the MLA of MP does not have a solution, let them tell the people instead of blaming the previous government when they visit the place. They forgot that the BJP was also in power in the state and in MCC! I want to ask what the BJP is doing now? Do they have any plan to deal with the situation? When are the higher officials visiting the spot?

The Pradesh Congress has formed a committee to collect all the necessary information and submit a report. We will submit a memorandum to the CM to take action and sanction funds to permanently rehabilitate the affected families.”

Former MLA Modieen Bava, DCC President Harish Kumar, Former mayors Sasidhar Hegde, Kavitha Sanil, Bhaskar K, Corporators Naveen D’Souza, Asha D’Silva and others were also present.
