Congress Party Announces K K Manjunath Candidate for South-West Teachers’ Constituency

Mangaluru: “The Congress party has officially announced K K Manjunath Kumar as the candidate for the South-West Teachers’ constituency but the opposition party candidates are spreading rumours that the Congress party has not announced K K Manjunath as their candidate for the South-West Teachers’ constituency to contest the forthcoming MLC elections and is creating confusion among the voters. Teachers should voluntarily enroll their names and cast their valuable votes to K K Manjunath in the forthcoming elections,” said the President of District Congress Harish Kumar in a press meet held at the DCC office, Mallikatta here on October 13.

Addressing the mediapersons Harish Kumar said, “So far we did not field any candidate for the teacher’s constituency but this time we have announced a teacher to contest the South-West Teachers’ constituency. Last time K K Manjunath had contested as an independent candidate and lost with a margin of just 100 votes. K K Manjunath has already visited all the 30 constituencies and met the teachers. There are more than 10000 teachers and over 80000 graduates in our district. The court has cancelled the old voter list. I urge all the teachers to come forward voluntarily, enroll their names and cast their valuable votes to the deserving candidate”.

Harish Kumar further said, “After the Congress party came to power, the problems faced by the teachers have been solved. From 32 years there was a difference in salary of High school and Pre-university college and the BJP and JD(S) failed to solve the differences in salary. But the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah solved the problems and granted special remuneration and increased Rs 1500 per month. When the BJP government was in power the salary of the teachers was paid once in 2 or three months but after the Congress came to power the salary of the teachers is paid every month. CM Siddaramaiah had taken a decision on September 23 to start Jyothi Sanjeevini scheme to aided and unaided schools.”

Harish Kumar also said, “The Mane Manege Congress campaign is going on successfully in all the 8 constituencies. Our party workers are visiting every house and meeting the family members to bring awareness about the achievements of the Congress government. On October 22, Chief Minister Siddarmaiah will visit Bantwal constituency and inaugurate various completed projects worth Rs 300 crore.”

“According to the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), our country is now ranked 100th among 119 developing countries in the Global Hunger Index. During UPA government it was ranked 55th. The NDA government has failed to control malnourishment in the country’, he said.

K K Manjunath speaking to the mediapersons said, “Many teachers had forced me to contest the elections in 2012, I voluntarily resigned from my job and contested the elections. In the last South-West Teachers’ constituency, I had contested as an independent candidate and lost for a few votes. Many did not want a teacher to be the MLC, the opposition created confusion among the voters and threatened the teachers who supported me. The opposition also misled my friends making them stay away from me. I started my teaching career in the year 1994 and joined as a PCM teacher. This time I request all the teachers to enroll their names in the voter list and cast their valuable vote for me.”

District Youth Congress President Mithun Rai, Ibrahim Kodijal, Corporator Appi and others were also present.
