Congress Party Workers Convention held in Grandeur

Mangaluru: If you heard a bunch of police vehicle sirens this morning, it’s all because a bunch of Congress ministers/leaders are in town to grace the “Congress party Workers Convention” in town- and this has kept the traffic police busy controlling the traffic and making way for the VIP’s. The “Congress Party Workers Convention” was held at Town Hall-Mangaluru from 10 am onwards on Saturday, 16 July, 2016. During the occasion tributes were paid to Dr BR Ambedkar- a politician and social reformer, and Congress leader Late Blasius D’souza by all the dignitaries on the dais.

MLA JR Lobo welcomed the gathering, and introduced the bevy of dignitaries on the dais who comprised of ministers, MLAs, corporators, congress leaders and others- and they were all welcomed with a congress tri-color shawl. The convention was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp by Mapanna Mallikarjun Kharge-the leader of the Indian National Congress party in the 16th Lok Sabha, and the former Minister of Railways in the Government of India, along with other dignitaries on the dais namely, KPCC working president Dinesh Gundu Rao, State Ministers Ramanath Rai and U T Khader, Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes and his wife Blossom, MLA’s Moideen Bava and Abhaya Chandra Jain, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLA J R Lobo, MCC Mayor Harinath, MUDA chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, Congress leaders Tharanath Kallige-Suresh Ballal and many other Congress leaders.

In his nearly one-hour-long speech , Mallikarjun Kharge said, ” It is befitting to pay tribute to Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar popularly known as Babasaheb, who was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination against Untouchables (Dalits), while also he supported the rights of women and labour. We all need to follow in his footsteps for the betterment of the nation. It is funny to note that all the projects started and completed, BJP is claiming the credit for them. When Modi visits foreign countries, and gets applauds and praises from the Indian doctors, engineers, scientists, researchers and others, but does he know that all these professionals received education and were trained under Congress rule.”

“Why is Narendra Modi visiting so many foreign countries, when there is a foreign minister to take care of foreign trade and other issues. Modi takes only trips to large advance countries, but stays away from smaller countries, so that he can’t enjoy much. Holding one broom in hand, but with no brain will not make ‘Swachh Bharath successful. Congress has done so many projects, which BJP will never do in their tenure. All the main bridges, railway tracks, new highway roads and many other infrastructures were undertaken during Congress rule, but unfortunately Modi government is taking credit now for them. What happened to all the black money stored in Swiss Banks, that Modi promised will bring back to India and share among the poor and citizens of India. Modi government is nothing but talks, no action and progress” lambasted Kharge, while making mockery at Narendra Modi with some witty dialogues.

MP Oscar Fernandes was felicitated during the occasion, for his contribution to the Congress party, and for his achievements. Tribute was also paid to Blasius D’souza by Kallige Tharanath Shetty. Dinesh Gundu Rao addressing the gathering said, “Our government has done good job implementing many projects and programmes in the state but we haven’t publicized them much. We are second in the nation in milk production, and we have introduced pro-poor schemes like Anna Bhagya, Ksheera Bhagya and many other schemes”

Regarding the DySP Ganapathi’s suicide case, Rao said, ” Why should minister George resign when he has done nothing wrong. Just because the opposition is demanding for his resignation, we will never allow it to happen. If the BJP leaders can prove us with one instance of wrong doing by George, we will ask CM Siddaramaiah to fire George-until then we will stand by him, no matter what. BJP leaders are just making a dram in the assembly, by singing, sleeping, jogging etc-is this the way to pay respect to DySP Ganapathi. Oscar Fernandes, Ramanath Rai, Shantharam Naik, and many other dignitaries also spoke during the occasion, and they all criticized the political gimmicks and false assurances by the Modi government.
