Congress Releases List of Candidates Contesting for MCC Polls in 58 Wards

Congress Releases List of Candidates Contesting for MCC Polls in 58 Wards- Names of the other Two contestants for Ward 17 and 60 will be announced today (Thursday, 31 October)

Mangaluru : At a press meet held at Hotel Ocean Pearl, Mangaluru on Wednesday, 30 October, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Vice-President V.R. Sudarshan released the list of candidates for 58 of the 60 wards who will contest the Mangaluru City Corporation Council elections slated on November 12. “The names of the candidates for ward No. 17 and 56 will be released on Thursday, which is the last day for filing nominations. The party has renominated 19 of the 35 councilors who were in the earlier council. As many as 16 councilors lost out because of delimitation and reservation” said V R Sudarshan.

On naming two party candidates in the list to contest from ward No.19 Pachchanady, Sudershan said, “The party wants former Mayor Kavita Sanil to contest from the same ward. But Ms. Sanil has called the former District Congress President B. Ramanath Rai and expressed her unwillingness to contest and sought ticket for a new face. Hence we have also mentioned Ms Vishalakshi as the other candidate. The exact decision will be known on Thursday. There were four aspirants each for ward No.17 and 56, therefore we are yet to shortlist the candidate,” .

While stating that there will be resentment over selection of few candidates initially, Sudershan said, “The party leaders will address it and ensure victory of all party candidates. If anybody works against the official candidates, strict disciplinary action will be taken. The work on the manifesto was on and it might be released on or after November 3. Starting from 3 Nov until 10 November, various Congress leaders will hold press meet to brief on the progress. We have tried our best to give seat/seats from every community, but since there are only 60 wards, there is no way to entertain everyone from different communities, therefore people should realize this”.

Former ministers Ramanath Rai and U T Khader, MLC Ivan D’souza, Former MLA’s J R Lobo and Moideen Bava, Harish Kumar-President of D K Congress Committee, Mithun Rai-President-Youth Congress, MLC U B Venkatesh, Ms Savitha Ramesh- Secretary-KPCC, Ms Shalet Pinto- President, Zilla Mahila Congress, and Gopal Swamy- MLC Hassan were present during the press meet.

ALL’S WELL THAT DIDN’T END WELL :

There’s a saying “All’s Well That Ends Well”meaning to say that a person can forget about how unpleasant or difficult something was because everything ended in a good way We almost didn’t make it here, but all’s well that ends well. Soon after the meeting ended in a pleasant and systematic way, there was some commotion outside the Hotel conference hall, where a aspiring candidate was not happy that his name was excluded in the list. Azeem, the son of former MCC Mayor Gulzar Banu along with bunch of others tried to push around former MLA Moideen Bava when he tried to pacify them on the issue.

After Congress leader Sudarshan had announced the list of candidates, he insisted that Moideen Bava go outside and pacify Azim and his supporters, but situation turned little ugly. But luckily the situation was calmed down after Ivan D’souza, Mithun Rai and others quickly rushed to the spot, and brought it under control. That’s why they “Men Will Be Men”?
