Congress to Hold ‘Jan Vedana’ Against Demonetization on Jan 18

Mangaluru: After 62 days of demonetization, people still face problems since some of the ATMs have no currency for withdrawal. Many of the people have the Jan Dhan account, and they have deposited the money without the Pan card, now the bank is not allowing such account holders to withdraw their hard earned money and their account has been frozen. There are restrictions to withdraw their hard earned money. The restrictions have not been withdrawn and the people face severe problems. The price of basic commodities has drastically increased. The Automobile industry is also facing severe problems. The economy of the country is at stake”, said the chief whip Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at his chamber here on January 14.

Ivan further said, “Vice-President AICC Rahul Gandhi has asked 5 questions to PM Modi they are: Since November 8, when Rs 500 and 1,000 notes were demonetized, How much black money has been collected? Because of the demonetization, what is the loss incurred to the economy? How many people have died after the demonetization standing in long queues and how many of their families given compensation? But there is no answer from prime minister Modi or the central government.

Ivan also said, we will start an agitation “Jan Vedana”, in the entire country. Jan Vedana will be held on January 18, in front of the RBI centres where we will stage protests. In the state there are 33 RBI centres and more than 15,000 people will gather to protest against the Demonetization. In the second stage, we will stage protests in the Gram-level and discuss the issues on demonetization for a month from January 20 to February 23. To provide a platform to the people to share their grievances on demonetization. I request the prime minister to relax the restrictions on the withdrawal of cash. The previous system should be adopted and those accounts which have been frozen should be released. Women having BPL cards should be compensated with Rs 25,000. The loans of farmers should be waived and their problems should be addressed”.

Ivan congratulated the winners of APMC election and said, “The result of district level APMC elections are out. Out of the total 41 seats Congress has won 22 seats and BJP 19. Bantwal congress 6 BJP 7, Beltangady congress 9 and BJP 5 and in Mangaluru congress 7 and BJP 7. I congratulate the winners and thank the voters”.
