Congress to protest against demonetisation on January 7

Udupi: “The Congress party will hold a protest on January 7, against the demonetization of notes and demand Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the white paper on demonetisation,” said the District Congress general secretary and President of UUDA Narasimha Murthy in a press meet held at the Press Club Udupi here on January 3.

Addressing the mediapersons Narasimha Murthy said, ” The Prime Minister should make revelations on the collection of black money since demonetisation. He should also assess the impact on the economy and employment. The revelations should follow the steps taken in planning and implementation of demonetization. He should also explain the cause of distancing the Reserve Bank of India and the economists during the implementation of demonetization”.

Congress demands the scrapping of the rules of not allowing people to withdraw money. The government should give 18% special interest since demonetisation. The charges levied on digital transactions should be withdrawn. The people who have lost their jobs should be given employment under MNREGA. The 50% of relaxation in income tax and sales tax should be given to petty shops and small traders. At least one women in a family holding BPL card should be given a relief of Rs 20000. The central government should disclose the financial relief released to the families of individuals who have lost their lives because of demonetization. They should also disclose the amount deposited in bank accounts of individuals post and pre demonetisation period.

The district congress will be holding a protest on January 7 in front of the deputy commissioner’s office against the ineffective implementation of demonetization. Scores of people’s representatives and party workers will join the protest.

Former Chairperson of KSDL Veronica Cornelio, Harish Kini, KPCC Member Dinesh Putran, Bhaskar Rao Kediyoor, Udupi Block Congress President Satish Amin Padukere, Prashanth Poojary, Nagesh Udyavar and others were also present.
