Udupi: The Indian National Congress party has retained the newly created Kaup Town Municipal Corporation, the result of which was announced on Wednesday.
The Congress party has won in 12 of the 23 wards of the town Municipal council. The Bharathiya Janatha party has won in 11 wards. The Janata Dal (Secular) and SDPI parties have failed to open their accounts in Kaup.
The winners from the Congress with the names of their wards in brackets, are: Sowmya (Kothalkatte), Suresh Devadiga (Kallya ward), Ashwini ( Beedubadi ward), K H Usman (Koppalangadi ward), Sulochana Bangera (Dugganthota ward), Hameed ( Mangalpete ward), Vijaylaxmi (Janardhan Tempel Ward), Mohammed Imran (Badagaraguttu ward), Malini (General School), Shanthalatha (Garadi ward), Shabu Saheb ( Kudthimar ward) and Leela (Ahammadi Mohalla ward).
The winners from the Bharathiya Janatha party with the names of their wards in brackets, are : Rama Y Shetty (Kaipunjalu), Kiran Alva (Karavali), Sudha Ramesh (Polipugudde), Ramesh Kallya (Dandatheertha), Gulabi Palan (Bharathnagara), Vijay Karkera (Polipu), Anil Kumar (Kaup Pete), Mamatha (Light house), Shambhavi Kulal (Thottam), Arun Shetty Padoor ( Kombagudde) Mohini Shetty (Gujji ward).

Udupi: Counting of votes for the first-ever election held for the newly created Kaup Town Municipal Council began at the Court of the Taluk Office Bannaje here on Wednesday April 27.
The first-ever election held for the newly created Kaup Town Municipal Council recorded 74.23 percent polling. As many as 58 candidates were in the fray for the 23 wards. The total number of voters in the constituency are 16,491, with 8,729 women and 7,762 men.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the counting process with extra police personnel deployed around the counting centre.
The Congress and the BJP had fielded candidates in all the 23 wards while the JD(S) and the Social Democratic Party of India had fielded five and four candidates respectively. Three independent candidates also contested the elections.
