Congress Workers Gherao Minister Jayamala, demand SP’s Transfer
Udupi: The Congress party workers gheraoed district minister in-charge Dr Jayamala for not responding to the grievances of the party workers and failing to give them protection during the Bharat Bandh.
District minister in-charge Dr Jayamla arrived in Udupi to take part in the District-level Gandhi Jayanthi on Tuesday, October 2. After the programme while Jayamala was returning from the venue some Congress workers led by Ramesh Kanchan gheraoed the minister.
Ramesh Kanchan said, “During the Bharat Bandh in Udupi, the Congress party workers had protested peacefully but the SP of Udupi unnecessarily resorted to lathi charge on the Congress workers. Many workers were injured during the Lathi charge and admitted to the hospital. As a district minister In-charge Jayamala did not meet the party workers but visited the SP’s house for Ganesh Chathurti. She has failed to transfer SP Laxman Nimbargi and totally neglected the Congress workers in this incident”, he alleged.
Responding to the allegations of the Congress workers minister Jayamala said, “As district minister, I have collected all the information about the incident from the police department as well as from the party leaders. I have instructed the SP to take action against those who had indulged in the forcible bandh. It is my duty to keep the district peaceful.”
When the workers continuously demanded the transfer the SP Laxman Nimbargi the minister lost her cool and strictly warned the workers, she made it clear that she would not tolerate their immature behavior in front of the media. Later the minister left the venue.
