‘Connection Imp Than Correction’ tells Chief Guest to Parents of St Angela School Tiny Grads

‘Connection is more Important Than Correction’ tells Chief Guest Ms Emima David, a Professor at st Agnes College-Mangaluru to Parents of St Angela Primary School -Bejai, Mangaluru Tiny Graduates of Upper Kindergarten

Mangaluru: Gone are the days of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s where a graduation celebration was held only after you completed your college graduation. The world has moved so forward, that now we have graduation ceremony even for tiny UKG kids. Wow- and the ceremony, believe it or not, is simply glittering and marvelous. And for the fact, St Angela Primary School-Bejai-Mangaluru had the “Graduation Ceremony” for the 43 kids of UKG on Wednesday, 11 April 2018 at 11 am at the School hall. As they say “Today’s Children are Tomorrow’s Citizens’- these tiny Graduates attired in their school uniform with a Grad Cap, were ready with enthusiasm and excitement to receive their graduation Certificates.

On the outset congratulations to all the 43 smart kids on being conferred with the “graduation Diplomas/ Certificates”. Dream..dream..dream.. and your dreams have come true! Today was indeed a grand and glorious day, where 43 children’s dreams came true as they were anxiously looking forward to receive their “Graduation Diploma”. Graduation day for these smart 43 Graduating kids from kindergarten all clad in their “School Uniforms” and caps really made this the most memorable day of their lives thus far! They were all beaming with joy and pride amidst their teachers and parents, who were responsible for them to get so far, and earn the graduate that graduate status ?.

Yes, it’s true- Graduation Day fills the heart with mixed feelings. Fulfillment and sadness, anxiety and eagerness, say goodbye to the secure life within the kindergarten walls and get ready to explore a new world altogether. This day, 11 April, 2018 was a great occasion in the lives of all the children. It was also due recognition for the outstanding work of the Headmistress Sr Matilda/staff/teachers and also a pretty emotional day for the parents.

Just looking around, the happy smiling faces says so much about the environment at this school. The children have learned so much. No doubt, the school places great value on community, learning, fun and a child centered approach. The credit for the success and educational growth of the kids should go to Sr Matilda, bunch of Ursuline Nuns and dedicated teachers, who had molded these kids to become smart and successful graduates.

The chief guest for the occasion was Ms Emima David-Professor at St Agnes College, Mangaluru and presided over by Sr Leena Rodrigues- Deputy Secretary of Urusline Franciscan Educational society-Mangaluru Province, Sr Ancilla Pinto-Correspondent of the School; along with Sr Matilda joined them on the dais. Addressing the gathering chief guest Ms Emima David said, ” Connection is more important than correction. Parents need tom spend more time with their children, than correct them every now and then.Yes these days parents in their 21st century are busy with their jobs or other assignments, having little time for their kids. But as a parent, the greatest responsibility is to give time. Time equals love. You cannot say you love someone yet don’t make time for them. To give your child/children identity.”

” Children who spend adequate time with their parents have a firm identity. To monitor their growth and give leadership. To identify their skills and talent in order to grow them. To foster better communication. Time spent together makes your child/children comfortable with you making it easier to open up to you. To show love through touch. Children are your greatest assets and gifts. Cherish the great moments with them-today is the right time-tomorrow they will be a day older.Make time for your no matter how busy you are. Get connected with than Correcting them. Spend enough time with them, and surely you will feel the difference.” added Ms David

Sr Leena also speaking on the occasion said, ” This is an important day, for you, your loving parents and for all of us. Today you have become graduates of this school . We trained you to love God and to love people. We helped you read, count, work with numbers, sing, dance and play and live with others. We hope you will use all the skills you learned here, for your good and for the good of the people and practice the virtues that you were taught here. Quality is much more important than quantity. Parents you need to teach the children the basic manners and teach them how to respect their elders, teachers and parents. Never tell children that they are wrong, which may hurt them bad. Never force them to do things of your choice. Give them freedom. Times have changed now- the way we were brought up as children decades ago has changed. So we need to adjust to the needs of the present children, by making time for them and communicating with them. These children will make a difference inn the world, so let’s look forward that these kids will become better human beings when they grow up”

The time now arrived for the 43 graduates of UKG ‘A’ section and UKG ‘B’ section to receive their graduation certificated from the Chief guest Ms Emima David, and the President of the Ceremony Sr Leena Rodrigues. Prior to this, UKG student Master Yuvaraj Kundar expressed his thoughts of being a student at this school for three years, while a parent, Santhosh Kumar, dad of Aardhya also expressed his words of appreciation and encouragement that St Angela School has given to its students. Sr Selma had welcomed the gathering, while Ms Anitha and Ms Philomena S, both School teachers read out the names of the graduates. Renuka Devi and Sylvia D’souza were the class teachers of these two UKG sections. The vote of thanks was proposed by teacher Doreen D’souza; and graduation ceremony was professionally and systematically compered by Sr Leena Sequeira

In conclusion, while being a part of this graduation ceremony and also enjoying the ceremony, all I can say is that “Life is not just about learning to read and write. They are important, but just as important is love and friendship. This school places great emphasis on being part of the community. This is a lifelong skill which will help them to flourish. It may seem slightly old fashioned but a sense of community to me is very important to the future of our nation and our children”.

So I would like to extend my thanks to the two special teachers namely Ms Renuka Devi and Sylvia D’souza, for the love they have for the children which shines through in their results and also thank all the parents who have willingly given their time towards their children. Not to forget, Sr Matilda, the school headmistress who has been the inspiration and motivational force behind the success of the students and the school. These students have strong foundations and by looking at the smartness of these KG kids I can say that the teachers have given the children a great start in life. They have learned many priceless lessons. Take on challenges, be loving, love learning, be part of the community, laugh and be all you can be.

After all, today’s smart kids are nations future leaders. May God bless these tiny “graduates” as they move forward into becoming youth and adulthood graduates in their primary, middle, and their high school and college grade. What happens today…. is life changing and has to last for a life time. Best of luck graduates Kid Graduates!
