Consecration ceremony of St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral, Brahmavar begins
Udupi: The Consecration of Renovated St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral, Brahmavar began with prayers on January 11.
Prior the Consecration prayer a grand Hore Kanike procession was held from Akashavani Junction to the Cathedral.
Yakob Mar Elias, Metropolitan of Brahmavar Diocese flagged off the Hore Kanike procession at Gandhi Maidan near Akashavani Junction.
The Syrian Catholic devotees dressed traditionally to symbolize the original tradition of the community, gathered church by church with their wide variety of gifts.
The procession was accompanied by various tableaux, Chande, Music, Brass Band, Huli Vesha and various folk troupes.
The head-load gift offerings with a variety of gifts from the parishioners of all churches were brought to the Cathedral in a procession.
The head-load gift offerings were then ceremoniously accepted by His Grace Joseph Mar Dionysius, Calcutta Bishop and His Grace Yakob Mar Elias, Brahmavar Diocese Bishop, along with vicar Fr C.A. Isaac, Fr Yuhanon Mulamoottil Cor Episcopa and Fr Joseph Thaliamparambil Cor Episcopa at the Church, in front of the stone Cross.
After the Hore Kanike the Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, the Supreme Head of Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Syrian Church opened the renovated cathedral door by cutting the Ribbon and lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries.
Fr CA Isaac Vicar General of St Mary’s cathedral Brahmavar welcomed the Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Paulose II to conduct the Consecration ceremony of Renovated St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral. After welcoming Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Paulose II held the Consecration prayer along with Yakob Mar Elias (Bishop, Brahmavar Diocese), Geevarghese Mar Coorilos (Bishop, Mumbai Diocese), Joseph Mar Dionysius (Bishop, Kolkata Diocese), Geevarghese Mar Yulios (Bishop, Ahmedabad Diocese) and Abraham Mar Seraphim (Bishop, Bangalore Diocese). Fellowship community dinner was served to all those who attended the Consecration ceremony.
Fr C.A. Isaac, Fr Lawrence D’Souza, Fr David Crasta, Fr Abraham Kuriakose, Fr Noel Lewis and Fr Joseph Chacko, Trustee Anil B Rodrigues, Cathedral Renovation committee president Alan Rohan Vaz and others were present.
On 12th January, the second part of the Consecration prayers will begin by 06:30 am, followed by the Holy Mass at 08:30 am. After the Holy Mass, a public felicitation will be held.
The Public felicitation function will be presided by H.G. Yakob Mar Elias (Bishop, Brahmavar Diocese). The Meet shall be inaugurated and the inaugural address shall be delivered by the Catholicos His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II.
