Conservation of Forest should be Everyone’s Responsibility – Dr Veerendra Heggade
Udupi: Dr D Veerendra Heggade administrator/Dharmadhikari of the Dharmasthala Temple inaugurated the state-wide seed ball planting campaign organised by Shanthivana Trust, Dharmasthala Temple and Dharmasthala rural development project at Vishnumoorthy High School Kodibettu Hiriyadka here on July 22.
In his inaugural speech Veerendra Heggade said, “This was essential as the effects of climate change and global warming are serious issues. It is every person’s responsibility to check global warming. We want to create green schools and green villages in the State. All students should be made aware of the importance and benefits of protecting our environment. They should be told about the importance of growing and protecting trees, as well as about the harmful effects of polluting water, air and sound”.
Under the leadership of Shanthivana Trust, Dharmasthala Temple and Dharmasthala rural development project has set a target of planting 30 lakh saplings during this year’s tree plantation drive and today’s target is to plant 5 lakh saplings across the state, he added.
Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake in his message said that most parts of the state are experiencing intense water problems. It is only because of the environment that such problems continue to increase. Depletion of forests has been going on, trees continue to be felled. In a way, humans are the main cause of destroying the environment and putting ourselves on the path of destruction. Saving forests and conserving water becomes everybody’s responsibility, we must save every drop of water. In the Kaup Constituency, we have developed 16 lakes for the conservation of water. We have set a target of developing 20 lakes across the constituency, he added.
Later Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in charge, Dr Mahesh Joshi Retired director of Doordarshan jointly released the Books on Moral Education from Shanthivana Trust at U Kamalabai High School Kadiyali.
