Controversial Remarks against Islam – Muslim leader Ansar Ahamed files complaint against Manjunath Swamy

Udupi: Muslim Leader and Chief of ’Pejawar Swamiji Muslim Fans Association’, Ansar Ahamed filed an individual complaint at the Udupi Town Police Station on December 5, against Manjunath Swamy regional Special Sampark Pramuk of Vishwa Hindu Parishad who delivered a controversial speech against Islam during the Janagrah meet in Udupi.

After filing the complaint Ansar Ahamed said, “The programme was meant to put forth a demand for the construction of the Temple dedicated to Lord Rama at Ayodhya. During the Janagrah meeting, Manjunath Swamy delivered the speech and said that Muslims are terrorists, Islam is not a religion and that the Quran is not a religious scripture. These statements have hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community.”

Ansar Ahamed further said, “We, the Muslims in this district, are inclined to work day and night for peace and harmonious coexistence. There were attempts to create communal clashes in Udupi but by the grace of God, not a single communal clash was reported in the district. Our Muslim team has been providing Cold drinks for every programme. Even for the Janagrah meet, we had arranged cold drinks for the participants”.

Ansar Ahamed also said, “We have been working hand in hand with the Hindu community and treating them as our brothers. But harmony in the district is in danger of being vitiated because of speeches made by such leaders. These statements have heaped insults on the Muslim community”.

Today we demanded the Udupi Police to take action against Manjunath Swamy for the controversial statement at the programme, he said.
